I've "deactivated" my fb several times. But I literally just yesterday submitted a permanent deletion request. That is an option, if you didn't know. Takes 14 days.

I simply have no need, let alone, any room for it in the life I want to build. Plain n simple. "What about friends and family?"

What about em? I have a phone. I have an email address. I have snail mail. Were these not enough in the months or years prior to my signing up for facecrook?

It's a drain to sit there and see all the updates and "look at me," then posting at all becomes a chore because you know you're just doing it to be seen, and after not too long, your very own thoughts begin to sound pretentious. At least, that was it for me.

I'm much more at peace without it. Plus, a little rebellion just plain feels good.

Facebook and twitter are places where we rely on other's posts and likes to give us a sense of being social (without being social) entertainment, and validation. As soon as you cut the cord and put that within you, you'll be one more step toward a better mind.

I deactivated it a year back because it disgusted me. I got it back to potentially use it to drive more sales, but I still found it unbearably disgusting. I moved for permanent deletion this time. The shit is full soulless people. Some of my friends use it. When I talk to them in person, they seem to have more sense. When I see them posting on there, it is as if they are totally oblivious to the big picture of how the world actually works.

I deactivated mine. Its great. So freeing.

But that's mainly because I posted so much political stuff on there including how all the politicians including VP Joe Biden are pedophiles, and I didn't want any future employers to rescind their offers by doing a social media check.

FB is used mainly for trying to one-up others by showing what a wonderful life people have. Quite sad really as it's all window dressing.

Break the mould and post something creative/educational. No I'm not talking about posting intelligent quotes and things like that. Be your own brand of genius if you must use social media.

I fully deleted mine over a year ago. Most of my so called friends didn't notice I was gone. It's a time suck. To actually delete your account (rather than deactivate) there is a page that you have to go to that isn't formatted like the normal facebook. I feel like they do this on purpose.

I don't see any stupid drama and I get to learn stuff about people by talking. Social media is cancer. No regrets.

I purposely google myself now and cannot find anything on the interwebs. it's great.

i did. didn't even mean to have it, just created it to see something a friend posted that he wanted me to look at.. ..and all of a sudden, from all over the internet, i'm eating this, we're going to see that, i'm taking a shit. fuck that noise. delete!

zero regrets.

side note, once i deleted mine i found out it's still active for something like 6 months, just in case they try to pull you back in.

I still have a Facebook that I get on maybe once every other week. Theres a ton of funny shit on there and it's a good way to stay in touch with extended family that you don't care about enough to call.

i am lucky i have never ever had a facebook, right from the beginning i saw it as ultimately useless, i have never been interested in peoples holiday/kids or pet photos, the only people who i genuinely am interested in their lives are so interesting/fun that they dont post to facebook because they are busy doing stuff, not showing stuff.

facebook is only used by uninteresting people who think the purpose of life is to mindlessly document everything to be in a competition with people they don't know.

Here's how I did it.

First I deactivated mine for about 2 years. Then I reactivated, and slowly started deleting people I have no contact with. I used it less and with caution. After about another year, I decided to delete anyone I didn't like, and just keep people I admire or I have respect for.

So now, it's no longer a social contest, it's just something I'd log into 1-2 times a week or so, there's no anxiety, it's pretty chill, and there's some cool people on there that are doing shit with their lives in an inspiring way.

Naturally I don't use anything other then Youtube and Reddit.

I deleted mine 2 months ago after breaking up with gf (it was easier than unfriending her and her friends/family). Don't miss it, there's plenty of other stuff on the internet.

You don't need to if you don't want to. Just stop using the FB webpage, the best thing about facebook is that they separated the messenger service and app, so now you can enjoy communication without the Facebook page cancer. Close your wall, stop opening the frontpage and get the messenger app (or use the messenger webpage).

did it 2.5 years ago. felt so hard for like a week, after that never went back. there are so many other chat and apps that people use nowadays. basically EVERYONE uses FB, instagram, twitter, gmail, youTube, you can connect through one of those. i got rid of FB but keep a small instagram just so i can still have some digital interaction without the ad naeuseum waste of time that is FB and digital ego city. i'm so much happier. my job requires networking too, its nice to remember we always did that even before FB, there are phones, email, apps, actually seeing people, and then you never see dumb ass photos of peoples food and fake ego so when you meet them you're honestly interested in knowing about them and finding out whats new because you dont' 'know.

Don't do it. Social media is toxic and all that. But you cannot choose stuff like this. When the taxi business is replaced by Uber, and you are in a new city and need a ride, what will you do without an account? What if the bank wont give you a mortgage for your cabin cause they can't determine your risk. They demand social media to see if you are friends with people with bad credit.

FaceBook is like emails or cell phones. You cannot tell society you refuse.

Waste of time unless you're using it for business purposes. What I realized are my most successful/happy friends are guys who never or rarely used Facebook for personal reasons.

Seriously man, fuck social media.. Do what the guys are saying below and delete all that shit. It's a waste of time and it's just childish in my opinion.. I did it last year and have no regrets. It was a wonderful decision, and it made me realize how immature I was before. Just think about the grown adults trying to get their "likes" and approval from people online.. I think it's pathetic. I eventually deleted twitter, instagram, facebook, etc.. But of course I still have reddit.. Haha!

I'm proud of everyone that does this.

I deleted FB 5 years ago. You save so much mental RAM by not giving a crap about hundreds of loose connections. Instead I ended up focusing on strengthening important ones IRL.

I deactivated probably 6 or 7 years ago and have not a single regret. There's nothing there for you, unless you use frustration and irritation to wake you up instead of coffee. I prefer to listen to the news for my dose of "what the fuck is wrong with the world."

BTW, when people ask why you aren't on, just laugh and tell them you're an adult. FB was created for college kids (actually, when it first started, you had to have a university e-mail address to sign up). It went south when middle aged women and teenagers started taking it over.

3 years ago I stoped with fb. I had just been dumped by a gf and was looking after another ex gf, using fb, for my dosage of pussy. So I had an epiphany and realized how adicted I was and how moraly disgusting I was behaving, there was no manhood left in me. So in a act of heroism I said to myself: I will never use fb again. Theres been 3 years with no petiness, no sluts annoying me, no misery. More time to improve myself. I will never use social media and date again.
