When my Ex cheated on me and divorced me, she wanted everything - all of "our" assets - and to pay for her attorneys! Her reasoning - because "I would just make more". Luckily, we didn't have kids. She got half of everything - about $30K - after a lengthy divorce and court battle where the attorneys were getting paid far too much. I was very young, and this seemed like an enormous amount to me, as it was half of everything I had accumulated in my life in my early 20s.

Within a year, she had blown it all - even though she had a job that paid OK.

Turned out, she was right on one thing. I continued to do well. Now, 30+ years later, some days I make more than $30K. I can't believe I sweated the divorce settlement.
