Everyone says that precious metals are inferior to fiat currency, but if you suggest making it legal to use precious metals as money (It's illegal: 18 U.S. Code § 486) if there's no way it could compete... they always find a way to change the topic.

Pointing out that the only thing backing up the power of the US dollar is a government gun preventing you from using anything else... just can't be processed by people who would have to change their entire world-view to accommodate this fact.
