This is very painful for me to write this, but after tolerating decades of mental abuse, I told my dad to never talk to me 6 months ago. I think part of being MGTOW is cutting toxic relationships even when it comes to family.

Since I was a kid, my father was an alcoholic. And when he drinks, he takes his anger out verbally on anybody near him. I learned really fast at 10 years old to leave the room and keep my mouth shut. Because of him, my self-esteem was in the toilet. I never had a social life before college. Only after I left the house at 18 did I start opening up to people. I hated my childhood and only time I was happy was locking myself in my room playing Nintendo alone.

Fast forward 20 years, my dad rarely drinks and was easier to get along with. Until recently, he started drinking heavily again. This time, whatever insult he said to me I threw back. Then came the biggest truth bomb out of his mouth, "You are a big failure to me and I'm embarrassed to call you my son! I wish I didn't have you."

I just pulled out my phone hidden by my side and hit record and asked him to repeat himself. After I recorded, I told my father you have your wish. Since I hypothetically don't exist, there's no sense in talking to me. My dad laughed it off and says, "Sounds good to me!"

I haven't said one word to him in over 6 months. When he tries to speak to me, I play back the recording. When he relays a message to me from a friend, my mother, or relative, I play back the recording to them. Only time he wants to talk to me is when he needs me to do something for him. He's morbidly obese and needs assistance everyday and has to hire somebody for help. He's now spends his whole social security check on booze and blames me!

Part of me feels sad because alcoholism runs on father's side. I was an alcoholic in my 30s but nowhere near the mean drunk my father is. Other part of me feels relief that I don't have to tolerate his vitriol.

TLDR

Dad's an abusive drunk. Bad words exchanged. Ghosted!
