Someone born in 1850 in St Louis would have been 10 years old and clearly remember when the Pony Express ran to California by horse relay in 10 days. If they managed to live to 75, they would have experienced cars in the street, airplanes in the sky, telephone calls across St. Louis or to California, the evening newspapers reporting on the days events from Washington DC or Europe. That guy would have lived through the most innovative age of mankind.

Today, we live with identity politics and screeching and any form of innovation comes despite society not because of it.
