Sometimes I think civilization is like an amusement park: children are waiting with their parents in line for their turn on the ride (adulthood), you enjoy that ride until you're old, which by then you have to get off to let the next person take their turn. Fuck. That.

If medicine can keep me alive (we're close to having anti-aging gene therapies), and if the next generation will contribute nothing hugely different from the previous one, then I see no reason to step off the ride if I don't have to. I want to live for as long as possible.
