There are two kinds of materialism that often get confused.

One is aimed towards showing status to other people, the other is good living materialism. And there is an overlap in the middle.

Whatever makes you happy but when you go into debt to impress other people ... you have a serious problem in my opinion.

A ford gets better mileage so it will drive further than a Bentley, plus its easier to maintain.

Loneliness is a state of mind, not from people you aren't with. You can be lonely in a room full of people.

The holes dug in the ground for when we are dead would be the same size for most people seeing how most people in America are overweight.

Good luck convincing me that Intel built-in GPU and shitty 19" TN monitor will give me the same experience as RTX2080 and gaming ultrawide with all bells and whistles. Or that a vacation in Thailand is no better than a camping trip to home city hinterland. Nice things cost money - like all these cars and bikes that are regularly posted there. And what is this whine about "loneliness" in your nice house?

This is similar to how I live. I have make enough money that I could have a fancy watch, but I wear a Casio because it tells the time just as well. Also, I had a friend who was robbed at knifepoint for his Rolex while on holiday. Nobody has that experience while wearing a Casio. I could afford a nice car but I drive an old van because it does the same job as a car but can also carry stuff. I can't see the benefit to spending 100x more money for a tool that does the same job. As for houses, there I differ. I like to have space around me and I like living in a good area which isn't full of crime and degeneracy. My property costs are not minimised at all, but I'm happy with the way I spend that part of my money.

Well I'm glad some can do this minimalist lifestyle. I can but choose not to, I came up from nothing, lived in a 92 Camaro with no A/C in a California summer when I was thrown out by my AWALT mother at 18 in 2011

I've worked hard, started a small Construction company, I have a $60K truck $70K car $25k in motorcyles, lots of guns, lots of nice clothes, nice watches, nice shoes etc. And I am closing on my first house $250k March 18th.

I have been going my own way basically since I was a teenager without knowing it.

In summation, Fuck the minimalist lifestyle I like fancy things, I like expensive dinners, I like fast cars, etc. etc. etc. Ultimately how you go your own way is your own way no matter what.

I try to only buy stuff that I “need”, but enjoy spending money on leisure and experiences (within reason).

Before replacing an old item (say an appliance) I run it into the ground until its no longer working then I replace it. So many ppl replace items before they need to just bc the new version is shiny and has a couple new features.
