Most video games especially AAA are just propaganda nowadays. They can shove it in and not worry much about making the game good because the market is so big and bunch of normies and hardcore fanboys would just buy the game even if it suck. Even when there are backlash the chance the company would lose money is slim.

I’m an Asian dude and I don’t give a fuck if there aren’t a single Asian in the game , just give me something of quality that’s worth the money and interesting. Preferably political-free and most importantly a COMPLETED product , not some broken shit with hundreds of game breaking bugs.

But no.... the big companies are all about pleasing the social media SJW cuckshit and fill the game with shitty characters for the diversity check and don’t care about the quality.

Gaming has become too big.

So big companies are now all about being super safe and appealing to as many people as possible. Which is about keeping users engaged over satisfied.

B tier games (think dark souls 1, dark sidearm, etc) do not even exist at all (which is where most innovation takes place).

Indie games are way over saturated and most of the few who can make amazing things either do not have the funding and/or marketing to get anywhere beyond mor eaimple games.

Man it's not just female but also they try to make them all "uglier." I don't mind female protagonist as long it fits the story. Their excuse is that "we were trying to make them more realistic." It's actually really sad tbh... Whenever I see a female, non-white person in a video game as the protagonist I immediately think that it is some sort of affirmative action or some Marxist propaganda. Take Lara Croft. I'll admit, that was a decent game with an intricate plotline and had some good gameplay, but it was good not because the protagonist was a female, but because the actual game was good. Her being a female is largely insignificant.

It will be a long time before we get back to that of appreciation of games where they are just good, and not forced...

The same thing that has been happening in Hollywood is going to happen in gaming. The whole "Get Woke Go Broke" meme is a real thing. The Last of Us II got great reviews from the media and got rotten user reviews as it can be argued most game journalists are typical soyboy, feminst, far leftist types.

There have been some amazing games with lead female characters that didn't shove feminism down our throats. Sarah Kerrigan from the Starcraft franchise comes to mind. Samus from the Metroid series. Sort of like in movies, there have been some amazing female leads such as Sigourney Weaver in the Alien/Aliens movies.

My point is that instead of forcing their SJW leftist beliefs on us and forcing us to play lesbian feminists, they should be creating interesting characters that people actually want to play as.

AAA games have really dropped in quality in the past few years, but this may give one explanation for all of the female protagonists. I'm not discussing the "create your own character" games though.

See, AAA games have become bloated, repetitive, and often copy/paste code and graphics to pump out another mediocre, but flashy, game. Meanwhile more "indie" games and the smaller studios have been focused on making good or at least better games. With the online market, these studios can publish their games and get them advertised without physical copies, while AAA was a little slow to catch on. The snowball effect occurred, and unfortunately for the bigger game companies these little studios no longer feel the need to "sell out" and surrender their brand.

Where am I going with this? AAA games are getting more and more desperate for that decreasing market share, and hope that going "woke" will make up for all the gamers that moved on. So far, the only AAA titles really doing well are the ones that have established franchises, but adding too many "woke" elements kills future sales of any sequels.

Yeah yeah, "There are actually more female gamers!" That's counting mobile games. Take those away and pc/console games are still primarily male (Also, PC/Console Master Race).

Depends a lot on what you mean by companies; if you're talking about the yearly/bi-yearly release cycle publishers ... they know good and well that a wide enough spread of fans - or at least marketting susceptible plebs - will buy the game on release date simply because that's what they do so long as they don't piss them off too much in the run-up marketting. They don't even have to release a good product; Ass. Creed Unity for example. Or take TLOU2 - I understand they made their money back already despite the game floating on resale all over the place.

The high tier industry is just that - an industry. It's been stamped flat and optimised to the point that innovation doesn't really figure into the process any more, so they have to tap into diversity and other meta-methods ( e.g. microtransactions) instead.

Now mid tier stuff is usually niche and interesting, and there's potentially value in moving away from the presentation common to the game foundry style which, let's not forget, has been the norm for a good 15 years or so. It certainly grabs attention.

As for primary demographic target... don't be so sure. The mobile/portable games industry may well be past the big box industry by now, so perhaps they're experimenting on growing it to new demographics that were relevant 1/2 years ago when most of the new releases were in the planning stage.

Honestly i'm not fussed about it. The winners will keep winning, the losers will die out, the world turns and Baldurs Gate 2 (the original, not EE) is still to be surpassed :D

Get Woke Go Broke, especially in such a male dominated industry like gaming. None of these series really make any money unless it's Lara Croft who always was a bad ass female lead. In similar veins Horizon Zero Dawn seemed decent even though I never played it, female lead in a new game so no problem.

But look at the new Last of Us game, nobody's gonna buy this shit because they ruined the only thing that made that franchise decent: It's storytelling. They do this over and over in Hollywood, they think that making someone female and think that filling the story line with old tropes is going to hold anyone's interest. It's just bad storytelling

Just like TV shows, movies, music, and art, good games age well. As the years go by the best stuff floats to the surface. If you have to have the latest and greatest you will be the one who has to sift through the good and bad to find what you like. If you can be satisfied with games 10+ years old, you can save a ton of money (easy to get free) and vet them just by reading reviews.

When I played skyrim, I played as a woman. Personally, if given the choice I'd rather stare at a woman's ass for 3h a day. Same with any other game I've to put long hours into.

I really don't care what gender or race the protagonist is as long as the game is good. I however, hate when a character is switched from being their particular race or gender just to appease a certain minority. Any time I hear of that happening, I don't buy the game.

I don't play AAA games anymore due to the propaganda, and all the fucking ugly female characters. Seriously, AAA companies are deliberately making their female characters ugly as fuck. And that's fine. If they want to do that, let them do that. I stop buying their games, and fund a company who'll give me what I want. Easy as that.

The AAA companies of the future, will be the AAA companies who gave gamers what they wanted.

They probably believe (correctly) that all the core gamers will play the game anyway if it has good gameplay, so they may as well try to lure in non-core gamers by messing with the theme.

I play Apex Legends a lot. The characters are clearly influenced by woke thinking. One of them is nonbinary. One is gay. One of them is an autistic female. One is a very butch black woman. One is a 'toxic' white male who literally uses poison gas as his special ability. It's stupid and kinda annoying, but I don't ultimately care because most of them are pretty fun to play.
