Who gets to define “hate speech”? Answer: whoever is in power
Make no mistake gentlemen, “hate speech” is a weapon. This weapon is being used to silence, intimidate, and destroy. Those who use it don’t give a rats ass about anything but power.

Don't be surprised when they can not only censor hate speech, but can arrest you for "triggering" someone.

Happening in UK right now. they arrested a mother at her house for some meme or retweet concerning trannies. The guy with a HH pug, some other dude over some FB posts.

Harassment laws will do that. They call it alarming someone. So don't alarm anyone, you could get in trouble. 😅😅

The first recording of ‘hate speech’ was in the court case with the )ews against Henry Ford, and most apropos....The Dearborn Letters ~ exsposing the Protocols. . That should tell you who started this whole false idea of ‘hate speech’ nonsense.
And also concurrently.....’Who’ is in power..

[–]MGTOW_015 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've noticed that hard-core atheists are even more proselytizing than both, Evangelical Christians and Muslims. They also get angrier - or just as angry as those two groups - when having a discussions/debate.
[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Ew, not even close.
A religion is a belief followed by a strict rule set, and often prayer.
Atheism is frankly an idea
[–]User-31f64a4e0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The belief that there is certainly no god - Atheism - is an unprovable belief, and thus many consider it a religion.
Your other criteria - prayer, and strict rule set - are invalid. There are religions out there lacking one, the other or both.
Agnosticism - and an unconcern with the answer - then seems much more intelligent.
[–]TheDevilsAdvokaat9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I don't know if all of them think this way but it's absolutely true that some of them do; one of the attacks the religious used to make on atheism is that it was "just another form of belief; therefore you are religious too (I've actually heard this from religious friends) " but if you look in the dictionary or on Wikipedia it specifically states that Atheism is about the lack of belief.

the lack of belief
The lack of belief is also a belief. I believe in reincarnation....belief. I believe when you die you totally cease to exist....also a belief. I believe there is a god...belief. I believe there is no god...also a belief. In both cases an acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists (or does not exist) based on trust, faith, or confidence in someone or something....and in both cases, unproved or unprovable. The silly sophists and logicians of humanism/atheism will twist'n'turn, try to split hairs, and bury this under a mountain of their BS, but the truth remains no matter how skillful you are at plausible deniability or Socratic doubletalk.
[–]TheDevilsAdvokaat2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
This is actually generally regarded as incorrect. Lack of belief is no more a belief than lack of the ability to drive is an ability to drive.
[–]RoboMandrake1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link
And...an interesting spin on this is that a 'believer' sees no difference between atheism and agnosticism. In the mind of the 'believer', you either are a believer or you are not a believer. There is no room within this schema for the agnostic stance of 'don't know one way or the other' to be seen as anything different from the atheist stance of 'there is none'.
[+][deleted] 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
[–]RoboMandrake0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
Agnostic literally means 'don't know', as in don't know one way or the other. Theist believes, atheist does not believe, agnostic does not assume to know one way or the other. At least those are my understandings of the meanings of these words. 'Gnostic theist' or 'gnostic atheist', while redundant, are consistent. 'Agnostic theist' or 'agnostic atheist' are both a conflict of terms in that neither the one that believes nor te one that does not believe feel that they 'don't know' (agnostic).
[–]User-31f64a4e-1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
gnosticism is about knowledge.

Gnosticism
Gnosticism (from Ancient Greek: γνωστικός gnostikos, "having knowledge", from γνῶσις gnōsis, knowledge) is a modern name for a variety of ancient religious ideas and systems, originating in Jewish-Christian milieux in the first and second century AD. These systems believed that the material world is created by an emanation or 'works' of a lower god (demiurge), trapping the divine spark within the human body. This divine spark could be liberated by gnosis, spiritual knowledge acquired through direct experience. Some of the core teachings include the following:
All matter is evil, and the non-material, spirit-realm is good.
There is an unknowable God, who gave rise to many lesser spirit beings called Aeons.

Really? You want to play the leftie "win arguments by defining words" game?
Gnostic claims to "have knowledge" fail upon further scrutiny.
In fact, your definition clearly uses the phrase "ancient religious ideas and systems". This fails completely to the level of verifiable, objective facts. This fails the bar of demonstrable reality. What this means is, "a modern name for lunatics who memorized a bunch of ancient rubbish."
They know, in the sense that an insane man 'knows' he is actually Napoleon, or Henry VIII.

The paradox of tolerance states that if a society is tolerant without limit, it's ability to be tolerant is eventually seized or destroyed by the intolerant. Germany found this out the hard way when Hitler took over. "In order to maintain a tolerant society, the society must be intolerant of intolerance." Karl Popper
[–]JaxJags9049 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
South Park has a great scene on this. The kids get sent to “tolerance camp” which is made to seem like a concentration camp. They are told that being intolerant will not be tolerated.
Then at the end everybody bashing the people smoking cigarettes to further show their hypocrisy

People still haven't woken up and swallowed the redpills and the blackpills yielded by the paradox of tolerance
One of the red pills is that a "tolerant society" is a fleeting dream, a faulty foundation
And the black pill is that intolerance is always inevitable, and society must either choose on its own which ideas should be not tolerated, or let others decide for them
SJJWs are an example of "others"

[–]best_damn_milkshake23 points24 points25 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
This^ Threats and calls to violence are already not protected speech. If you now enlarge that category to “hate speech” How do you define it? Is it any comment about race? Because then buzzfeed could be shut down for all their comments about white people. Is it any comment about minorities? Well then what if the group you’re talking about is a minority in one place and not another? Is it a joke about a certain race? What is it? It’s impossible to enforce and frankly I don’t want the government telling me what’s acceptable speech. Words can’t hurt you

I'm asking why you guys think its as crucial to free speech as gravity is to physics.
[–]Muh-So-Gin-Knee9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ok, simple. What happens when what you, specifically you, want to say is deemed as "hate speech" by "society" and you are censored? Will "hate speech" be necessary for free speech then? You people are all about censorship because you never think it will happen to you.
[–]TPoK_0014 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Yes. If you are not allowed to speak an unpopular opinion, then whoever controls popular culture decides what you are and aren’t allowed to say. You think criminalizing the n word or misgendering someone will solve ANYTHING? Any speech threatening direct harm to someone is already illegal. Any less being banned would be a clear violation of the 1st Amendment. If you feel bad enough if someone calls you a faggot that they should be jailed, go to Canada.
[+]oligobop-9 points-8 points-7 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Nowhere did I attack the first amendment. I just insisted the equivalency looks stupid when you try to compare gravity to hate speech. Comparing gravity to all speech makes sense.
Free speech is important, that's why I said it should say ALL speech.
Hate speech isn't a good thing, but protecting all speech is. That's my point, but this sub missed it because they'd rather attack people they don't understand, tell them to leave their country (which is mine as much as it is yours), and tell them they don't deserve freedoms based on strawman arguments. Good job, men going their own way from logic.

they can't even define what constitutes hate speech.
They DONT WANT to define what constitutes hate speech, because if they do that the people`s minds will have some "north" about behaving "properly". By not defining what constitutes hate speech they keep people in troubled mental state where everything they say can be labelled as hate people. It scares people and keep their mouth shut.
Having the power to label something as hate speech and have it believed by everyone is a power of tyrannies.

The big thing I think people are missing on the issues of hate speech, racism, and sexism, is this: People pat themselves on the back about our progress in being more accepting, and making it a social crime to utter anything about certain groups. We're rooting out hate speech, vilifying anyone who says anything that could be seen as prejudice. We're cleaning things up and paving a way for a judge-free future.
Meanwhile, being an asshole in every other way is still perfectly acceptable and normal behavior. "Wow did you see that outfit Becky has on today? OMG she is so weird...listen don't invite her to the next meeting" "Who's that guy over there that always stinks?"
In the workplace, in social settings, everywhere. People are talking smack about others all day long. And it's so ingrained into our routine, it is completely normal. I can't remember a day where I didn't hear some negative comment about someone else.
Yes, I find myself in meetings (people I get along with by the way, so my point isn't so much to complain about them particularly) attended by people from diverse backgrounds, races, and sexual preferences. The most accepting group you'd think. Sure, when it comes to our special groups. But all else is fair game, the meanness flows very freely. Not once does anyone seem to notice a contradiction.

Thing about hate speech and especially passing legislation to silence it is that it provides the ground work for the government to silence speech in the first place. From there governments change, come and go, but what happens when a bad government comes and uses that framework to silence all speech it doesn’t like? Also as much as I like this comic I also disagree with it because I honestly don’t think MGTOW is a hate group (the comic seems to support hate speech as free speech which it is but that’s not the point) I honestly just view MGTOW as a highly critical view of the state of things and I don’t think that’s hate. But of course we will in a world where truths that go against the narrative is “hate speech”

In some countries making an argument backed by factual evidence is considered hate speech. It’s such a broad and vague term. “Something hateful” many things could be considered hateful while to other people it’s just being critical.

Here's something one of my parents once told me "You have the right to free speech, but you must deal with the consequences of what you say"
[–]ninjaweedman0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
I am what many would consider as "left as fuck" and often don't agree with the privileged right, What I do agree with is freedom of speech no matter what is said. I am so tired of the over emotional regressive left or the far right.
I will not let it stop me from being friends with, or talking to people of opposite views, even if our political ideals are polar opposites. Ignorance is only curb stomped through communication and learning.

Okay but being racist is actually bad still right? Lol actual hate speech and bigotry isn’t what men should stand for just because sjws also don’t stand for it

Hate speech encourages violence and is thus unconstitutional

How hard is it for people to understand free speech just means you can say what ever and not be arrested by the government. It however doesn’t in any way mean you can say what ever you want and have non of your fellow citizens ridicule you for it. That is their free speech right. So me saying to some one “you are a piece of shit and I hope your terrible life gets nothing but worse” in response to something they said isn’t me going against their free speech at all, in fact it’s me exercising my own. How about a little critical thinking so people don’t think this group is sadder then they already do.

I'm gonna get down voted with you and that's okay. Cause yes we have free speech but that doesn't mean free of consequences.
Cause of the way people here are saying free speech would also mean that anti-vaxx people are allowed to continue publishing fake articles that supports not having vaccinations. And if you don't agree with that well you are going against their free speech. This post is also saying women are allowed to make false rape claims cause the again free speech. If you are saying that no you can't post this missinformation on social website cause it's false. Well then you are going against their free speech.
Just because you have the freedom of speech doesn't mean you can say whatever you want and no one can say you are wrong and shouldn't say those things.

There is no such thing as free speech.
People advocate for it because it sounds very attractive; being able to voice your opinion and express yourself as much as you want without any consequences.. however you're still a human that would get threatened by other's doing the exact same and you'll take action against it to preserve your own beliefs and values. The same exact way how others will react and do against you.
People are only, and always will be, only capable of promoting speech to the extent of their beliefs and values.

Free speech is not negotiable. It is a key pillar of any free society, and the idea that the government knows what's acceptable to say and what is not is so naive
Exactly. Through the periscope of human emotion and selfishness the best we can hope for in a less free society is tyranny.
