I m sorry but this post is misleading at best. Many of the points that are used there are not true, not mention that it simplifies such complex problem as downfall or roman empire into few reasons.

Examples:

It is true that power of pater familias sligthly declines over the centuries. For instance it is no longer ok for him to sell his kids to slavery. He could still order any of people under his autority to divorce (among many other things) at any time, even in 5th century BC. More importantly the pater familias is not every father of a family. It is the father of the family, meaning you could be 40 with grandkids and still be under the rule of your father as he did no give you the right to be independent (emancipatio), to found your own family.

1 cent BC roman civilization was not at its peak, not in art, nor political or military power or economical wealth. Actualy 1st cent BC was a period of civil strife and civil wars were a constant problem.

Romans didnt need to work. Yes they needed to work, unless they inherited great wealth they needed to work. Reason for this misconception is that there was a social system in Rome. Those that were poor and not working had been suported by state and/or by nobles who wanted to get their votes in elections. The support was in form of food, clothes, payment of rent, direct finances or tickets to better seats at the games. These people were generaly from the proletarii class, basicly those who only owned their family.

Running water and baths. They had that, for several centuries. Same was true for several other cultures around mediterean sea, its hot there, hence many people came with similar/same way to survive that.

Stratigrafic in several ways as there was several types of citizenship that gave you diferent rights as well as complex system of social classes based on wealth than gave your vote more power based on how much you owned (that is the actual reason for census to find our how much you owned to determin your social class and voting power).

No fault divorce. Roman law always had no fault divorce. Legaly only thing you needed to divorce was to state to other party that you are no longer married. Didnt even need to inform the state about it. Of course there were other problems why people, mainly women did not do it that often. Becouse if they divorced their husband they automaticly returned under authority of their father and or pater familias who miht not be happy about having something like that happen, unless there was a reason for that. Actually by the end of 1st cent BC the divorce did not became more popular, but new law punished those that tolerated infidelity in marriage. Augustus was very much for rebuilding the family as virtuous unit with strong father and dutifull wife, which was kinda ironic considering his own wives (on the other hand he exiled his own daughter for having an affair).

Men rufused to marry and bachelor tax is enacted. That happened earlier that 1century AD, it was already a law during early reign of Augustus. The idea about taxing bachalers was that was not roman tradition and was detrimental to the the country. Romans had national ideal for men, virtus. That encompassed many things, masculinity, wilingness to fight till the end, to die for the country, to embrace simple lifestyle over the wealth to have children that will continue your house traditions of roman life. Roman family was extremly important, every family that managed to do something at least partialy important had a shirne where they worship their ancestors and prayed for their wisdom and help. Even the lowliest plebs had small statues where they gave offering of food to ancestors. Nobles had statues of ancestors and death mask were very popular. The idea that you just decided to not give damn about all of that was looked upon as unroman and dangerous. Position that u didnt liked your wife or women in general for some reason was not enough to not have kids, in greek culture it was given that the older grown up men (above 30) should have 2 kinds of relationship, the good one and necessary one. Necessary was with his wife to have kids, good was with younger man (sexual or not) to show him the ways of world until it will be his time to teach.

Prostitution and homosexuality became widespread. They were very common even before the 1st+2nd centuries ad. Prostitution could be easily trace back in roman laws for centuries, nobody gave a damn about it. The laws just prohibited that certain women were not allowed to participate. Homosexuality was taken with bit of joke in earlier roman republic. It was not abnormal to them, nor was it ilegal, they just had regulations that soldiers should not fuck each other, officiers are not allowed to use their power to force sex with those under their command, etc. . If it was used as a basis for joke, it was becouse they expected man to be the active not passive part of sex (for instance jokes about Caesar sellingg his virtue to the king in asia minor). Homosexuality itself was not a problem in general for them as they seen it as some other form of fun. After all if some gods of their could do it, and great heroes of legend had male partners as well as female, they didnt give a damn (On the other hand there was catonian purist who disliked even havingg affairs with women, "only time my wife is in my arms is when the gods bring thunder").

The decline of roman empire in 3rd and 4th century is a matter for series of books. Is there a demographic decline, yes a massive one. Is it couse people no longer give had kids. Not really, most due to wars, instability and epidemics. As far as i know we dont have birth rates in roman empire, couse they didnt made those types of records, and even if they did the christians in their early zeal burned nearly all of the writings that they could get their hands on.

Catholic religion is gaining power. Oh boy, ok christianity is becoming powerfull and it spreads. Catholicism is among the least spead in the empire. There were dozens of factions and interpretations, most widespread was aryanism. Catholicism became powerfull later after the series of misfortunate events that shattered all of the aryan kingdoms.

Massive corruption. To quote the meme "roman empire/republic have massive corruption?" "it ALWAYS had". Since the legendary roman kings to the first historical conquest of the republic, all the way its timeline till the last emperor was deposed there was a problem with corruption. The only question was if the magistrates were able to do something else beside it. For instance, first roman conquest, the fall of Veii was marked when during the sack of city, the commander of roman army Marcus Furius Camillus, the first dictator of roman republic (original meaning of this title is quite different from today, dictator was chosen by the senate to lead and have universal power for a certain time to solve a certain problem, it was the ultimate sign of trust that a state can give to the citizen), managed to get far more loot than was his share, like the doors to the main temple of Veii that were covered in bronze. That coupled with his oppulence (for the time) and refusal to give promised tenth share of loot to the temple od Appolo in Delphi led to his decline.

That was longer than i was expecting.

TLDR: Original post is full of misplaced and false information as well as wrong and simplistic interpretation of complex history.

I like to remind guys that we do in fact have a "Bachelor Tax" they just flipped it. You get a tax discount for being married. Yes technically that applies to women however women as a group don't pay taxes. The data on that information is being quickly erased though.

The Roman Republic was in economic turmoil during the 1st century BC, hence the Marian reforms, and Caesar's inevitable dictatorship.

Rome did reach it's economic peak during Trajan, 2nd of the 'Five good emperiors', ending with rise of Commodus (portrayed in Gladiator).

1st emperor Augustus did indeed try to 'pressure' men to marry though.
