A few things.

I always worried about getting old. Now at 40, I can tell you there are worse things than getting old, like being born young into such a fucked up world. It's a huge sigh of relief not having to fix a mess you'll be departing from soon enough.
I can really see how things got to this point. Things started falling apart after the industrial revolution. Where you might not have had to toil a field, you now had to work in a factory. And I don't give a shit how elevated the service sector is, you're still spending a considerable amount of time at work. Before you might have worked on a farm with family and friends. Now you work with "colleagues". You spend vast portions of your life with people who don't really give 2 shits about you. Most importantly though the integral family unit is weakened by this absence. Women and children aren't exempt. Children start their "work" the day they enter school, they're now in a system, and their family is a secondary concern. * Mini note here: It's also about waking hours. You might only spend 8 hours a day at work, but those are your most lucid hours. Your spare change hours (when you're tired / not focused) are allocated to your family. From my experience roughly 2-3 hours a day during a work day, and even then there's shit like household chores.
We can sit and debate how women got into the workforce, but at some point they did, and in a big way. Shit it's happened fast. At least 20 years ago female salaries were subsidiary at best. Not any more. Hence concepts like "Stay at home Dad" and the rebranding of "Breadwinner to be unisex".
Political correctness. Outside of Reddit, I mean in life, there's still a hive mind. Acceptable behavior is governed by the community. This means that let's say you met a girl and wanted to live normally where the male has his roles and the female hers. This symbiosis sustains a healthy relationship between the 2. Only the community these people find themselves in is far more liberal. What is considered "normal" however to the female is primarily what all her friends are doing. If their marriages are all open, or the majority, well regardless of how moral you think your bitch might be, it's only a matter of time. But it's not just in bigger issues like this. A more basic example. I wanted to do anal with my ex, and she literally went and got opinions from her friends on the subject. Now here's the fucked up thing. "Her getting to like anal" or not, would have been based on the feedback from her friends. If all her friends did it, well then she would feel obliged to do it or vice versa. In the same way you'll find yourself out of a relationship fast, if you come with any ideas too far out of the norm. EG: In the future, the desire for a monogamous relationship. You'll be labeled a freak.
Back to point 2. Since your woman is now spending most of her breathing hours at work. Who do you think she's pulling emotional support from? I mean realistically, even with your best efforts. My ex worked at a place for over a decade, and with friends she knew from university days. It's like she had a 2nd life at work. A buzzing social scene with all kinds of drama and complex relationships and many participants. After a while YOU'RE NOT the one she turns to if she has something really personal to discuss. Or if she needs a shoulder to cry on etc, she goes to the most natural, clearly her work friends. And it's a cluster fuck. Since all these work friends are in the same boat too. My point here is -> It starts becoming that your relationship is less about the emotional connection and more about the financial partnership (a basic dwelling cooperation) and to scratch that itch called sex. Now at this point it's really not a very far reach to say "Fuck if he's only giving me sex, well I can get that anywhere".
The general lack of real intimacy / connection in society, means people are more desperate for it, and constantly missing it. And because people are too fucking stupid to realise how to fix it, well they start having affairs. Notice how flirty office communication is. Mostly it leads to nowhere, but I see this general vibe of "I find you fuckable, and if I wasn't in a relationship or bound by social constraints I would be fucking you". Flirting, even at the most professional levels is so commonplace. And this can lead to affairs. Point is at some stage, affairs stop becoming taboo, since EVERYONE is virtually having them, so "Hell let's bring it out in the open".

What I find most distressing is that you reach a point where that one thing you wanted you won't have because women today aren't capable of giving it. They're so intertwinded with "The system" that they cannot even fathom sancity these days or what it really means to submit to a partner. At best you can hope for "sex on tap" and someone to come home to (and nag and bitch over impossible standards).
