I think it's simply the availability of choice online compared to the old days where you had to meet in person. I hope this doesn't come across as arrogant but I recently reactivated my OkCupid account and really put a lot of effort into it (mainly with the pictures) and I am actually surprised by how many women are messaging me. (Pictures with my dogs seem to be the thing that attracts most of them.) At first I felt very lucky despite the majority of them being unattractive or giving off a weird vibe but after a few months I do feel like I can be a little bit pickier. I can only imagine what it would be like if I was receiving 100 messages in a week.

Having said that I do think there is a social mindset that women can be pickier where as men have to be the chasers and prove themselves. I think it's interesting that men are told to put effort into their profile and messages and not just send the standard "Hey, what's up" and yet the majority of women who have messaged me have done just that and put almost no effort in their profile.

I originally reactivated my account because I was feeling lonely but after only two months of using it I am remembering why I walked away from dating in the first place.

I made a fake profile of a guy that was an athletic, 6'2", Caucasian, lawyer, philanthropist, that spent his Friday nights mentoring inner-city youth, and his weekends sailing or flying his private plane. My advice? Ignore women entirely. I know it's tough. It's very difficult to fight against our biological sex drive. I agree that you should stay away from dating sites. It's fun to look at the profiles. Each one of them poured their heart and soul into their description knowing and thinking that they were a unique flower and hopefully someone of quality (a White Knight to save them) would recognize their princessness and fall in love.

But if you read enough of them, they all are basically the same bullshit profiles. They are a "simple girl that enjoys going out once in a while but are just as comfortable relaxing and cozying up on a couch watching a movie.
