Single men are threat for the current feudal system. They are natural revolutionaries. They may have 'dangerous' ideas and ask uncomfortable questions. They have too much free time. Nothing better than beaten down, pussy whiped man, he has bills to pay and must be good boy to not loose jobs. He cant risk like a single man. Wife and kids drill his head and he will not challenge the system. Single men are also less profitable they work less and spend less.

That's why society doesn't like you. Not enough profit, too much risk of revolution.

I think in your case they're using it as an excuse. "I wanna spend time with the family!" And then they spend the weekend watching TV, smoking weed and hanging out at the bar.

But I also think if you're single, people think there's something wrong with you if you can't find a woman who wants to be with you. Also, men are considered the more desperate gender, so when they say they don't want to be in a relationship people take it as they tried and gave up.

Men with families or with wives are seen as having higher social status because that's what most men see them as. Being single is seen as lower status, even when you work the same responsibilities or hours you're seen as having disposable time, and a lower status. In office politics this makes you the most disposable for such a thing.

I've witnessed this effect with lazy and non productive employees who should've been fired but were given a free pass because they had family. Same effect was witnessed for women as well, the men give them more time, and tutor-age making it easier for women to accelerate in the environment.

Its bullshit but its a war of social value, and often people are not self restrained rent seekers.

Single men are viewed as not having something hanging over their heads. This is why corporations and other companies will value the family man more. This simply means that management knows for a fact that you will put up with more shit from that company because you are supporting a family. They will (usually) repay you in kind, but they are fully aware of the fact that you will be willing to overlook a lot of bullshit in order to keep making that money. It is, in short, a trap.

If you're some poor bastard with a mortgage, a bitching wife and 2 kids and you see someone your age who's single and happy you get a) envious and b) start to doubt your life choices.

And because your shitty life choices are pretty much set in stone and you can't change them anymore you switch into cognitive dissonance mode to protect your "emotional sanity" and decide that the happy guy either isn't happy or he's some sort of parasite or a sick freak or whatever. Just so you don't feel as shitty as reality would otherwise demand.

Ignore those people. Shrug it off. They already are living their personal hell on earth. Even if insulting you makes them temporarily feel better - in the end you still have your freedom and they have their miserable life.

Also when the lay offs come the ladies will expect you to sacrifice your job for one of them because you are single (Titanic effect). This is why you wear a wedding band at work and don't let anybody know your business or your opinions. Do your 8 and out the gate! Life begins when you get off work.

Problem solved, I got to have the same holidays as everybody else, I can use my "family" as an excuse for running late or going home early sometimes. Nobody knows, and I make sure to keep it that way.

Because your free time is truly free, theirs isn't. Imagine if you are going to college partime after work, and John is going to play video games. Now your time isn't inherently more valuable than Johns, but your first instinct is going to be "John isn't busy, I am...ask him to do it". John has every right to tell you to piss off, but a relatively normal reaction is taking exception to the idea that him playing video games is just as important as your doing college. Now transpose this on parents and single people.

Don't let it bother you. Just tell them no, you already have plans, and go about your business.

My sister taught me at the tender age of 9 ( She was a lot older and working the corporate world by then) that there is a real art to saying something, but really saying nothing in the workplace.

She said you don't want to be "That Guy" , i.e. the outcast, the weird one, the one people won't help to move forward, the one no one ever does a favor for that's work related, the one that they target because every group needs a scapegoat.

She said don't talk about your personal life, just talk about theirs, lightly. Ask questions, listen ( but don't care) and only discuss neutral things like weather or a recent movie or a non political current event. You don't want to be supplicating, but you don't want to stand out on anyone's social radar.

Work is a situation where information is treated the same as women use it - As a tool to hurt you later.

Say nothing, reveal nothing, just know how to say things that don't cause a reaction.

There were two guys I knew casually in the past. They were not friends, they just hung around a location where I frequented maybe twice a month. One was just a hostile guy. The other was pretty cool and laid back. One time I went to the store next door and bought a couple of cheap donuts. I gave them each one. The hostile guy stopped being hostile. I had no respect for him before, but I truly saw how worthless he was then. His price was a single lousy donut.

Generally speaking, what I've learned in the workplace is to be casually generous. Bring in donuts once a month. Get books from yard sales that look newish and give them as gifts to people who have spoken about interest in the subject. Remember one detail about the person you can bank on ( i.e. they love birds and bird watch) Never talk about yourself, let them talk about their favorite subjects - Themselves. I'm not saying do this all day, but do this when socializing to some degree can't be avoided. If you are on a work trip with 3 other people, you just can't ignore everyone and say nothing for four days.

Small inexpensive gifts and gestures buy you silence. People leave you alone. Because people can really be bought cheap.

As for your off time, it helps to have a sick neighbor ( i.e. an old lady in a wheelchair) Whom you help out from time to time because she has no sons. I have this for real in real life, but it can be imaginary for others. Say you have to help her out and can't do it. Have a picture of her on your desk. Say she is like a mother to you. People don't want to look bad or feel bad, so they aren't going to push too hard about you not helping an old lady because of them.

What I am saying is work is an obligation. I get that the hoop jumping and mental gymnastics are irritating, but either find a way to play the "game" to your advantage or find a place that forces you into fewer irritation formats.

Because for centuries people were had incentive to marry and make kids for their safety. More kids you had more people to support you when older or work in your land. Also more people to fight wars to protect kingdoms, etc. we are animals and to survive we need to procreate.

I don't know if it's the true case. It may just be the culture at your job frowns upon overtime, so to go along with the herd everybody hates it. I've taken a passive approach to OT, I just say I'll take it if it's there and if not I'll go home. Don't let people know your true intent because for whatever reason they want to do the opposite. I would say "I want all the OT I can get" and low and behold, someone else nope I'll take it. Fine, "I want to go home early," yep you guessed it no one wants it. For the most part people don't want it, I've come accustom to just taking it and enjoying the extra cash. If your job is constantly pushing OT on you and you don't want it, maybe it's time for a new job. After all it is a sub about men taking their power back.

It's so that a child can celebrate the holiday with his family. It doesn't mean you're worth less for being single. It's literally just being nice to a family with children so they can make good childhood memories. If you're single and have no family and feel like you're holiday is more important than the guy who had 3 small ones at home then you truly are helpless and your a asshole.
