Just from glancing at the history of Computer Science it should be painfully obvious that women are inferior developers and have played a marginal if not negligible part in it despite being something that requires absolutely no physical requirements beyond being able to have two functioning hands as well as having a lot of free time at home, both of which women have had in spades for the past century.

Admittedly programming is being made more girl friendly with compartmentalisation and objects breaking things down into girl size lumps. The days when I was given the wiring diagram of an analogue autopilot (747) and a design for a previous 'similar' system and was told to simulate it are long gone. Documenting that and holding it in your head so you can debug it would be far too much to ask of the poor dears. In assembler of course.

You know what, though, honestly? I can't understand why more women DON'T enter the tech field. It seems like a match made in heaven for women. Women don't want to do hard physical labor... Well, why not become a Sysadmin, Penetration Tester, Programmer, Network Engineer, etc? These are all extremely well paying jobs that require education, some of them you literally never need to leave the comfort of your own home. I know that there are a lot of mtf transgendered people that are programmers, because it allows them the comfort of being able to stay indoors and not deal with people judging them. What a luxury, staying indoors in your own home and working.

Yet women keep going into HR, Education, Nursing, etc. Why? Why would women NOT want to go into tech in order to create? Truthfully, I wonder. I've heard it touted about that men are more prone to want to create things, to build and invent new ideas and technologies. With no disrespect towards women whatsoever, it is absolutely true that most women tend to gravitate towards certain jobs.

Most girls I know that code don't follow naming conventions, don't comment their code, and write code that guarantees memory leaks and poorly utilized objects.

Bottom line is speaking specifically now about the BASIC generation which pretty much fueled the backbone of programmers we know today, girls were just not that big a part of it.

And there's a reason for this. While millions of boys were OK with teaching themselves how to program without much outside assistance. While they made the time to type in magazines of code to get stuff to run and spent almost all of their free time besotted with computers, females were just not that interested.

It was considered too hard, too geeky and ultimately a huge waste of time - when you could be living in the real world.

That was the general attitude back then. Now that programming has opened up to plebs, and IT has been overrun with people just in it for the money, now a lot of these half handy parasites are commonplace.

So in this context yes, you will find average female programmers, just like you will find average male programmers everywhere.

Here's what I said at the time:

This is utter bullshit, and anyone who actually codes should see it immediately.
Pull rate is not an indicator of coding ability.

It could reflect women doing minor, easily understood maintenance instead of non-trivial features
It could reflect women getting more third-party help before checking in their code
It could reflect gender differences in who feels confident enough to offer code; perhaps only the most skilled females have the temerity to offer code to open source projects, as opposed to the great unwashed of male programmers
It could reflect female programmers only addressing non-controversial issues and features, so that there is no resistance to the adoption of their proposed changes. Perhaps men attempt to steer projects in more controversial directions.

LoL, it would take a lot more than some bullshit article for me to believe that nonsense. I know programmers of both genders and this is what I can say:

I'd never ask a woman programmer for advice if there's a man that can help me.
