Interesting write up. I used to beat myself up for hours over not saying this or that to a girl I found attractive. Maybe discussing it with my guy friends.

These days I just laugh like fuck she can come talk to me if she wants but otherwise I'm chill. And considering women are 95% reactionary, well I live in peaceful bliss!

I think psychologically it's the same principle how gambling addicts fixate on the slim probability of winning despite the overwhelming odds of failing.

In a way, when a man approaches a woman he his playing a lottery - with the highest stakes imaginable; for every "good" woman there is a distortional number of bad ones, yet men often fixate on the slim chance at the expense of the reality of their odds, just like the lottery players.

Just like the lottery players they tell themselves "you can't win if you don't play".

And, for the sake of argument, let's say one finally does "win the lottery" of love - still they are cursed. Having failed so many times, it has left a significant psychological change in the mind of the "winner"; they see themselves of having little value. 1 victory over 30 defeats does not erase what was lost. Such a thing is called "the winners curse" in economics.

If I look back at all the girls I took a chance on and approached, then I see how much time I wasted with her and disrespecting myself as a man.

I don't see anything disrespectful about approaching. You see something you want and you take action to get it. I've done potentially thousands of cold approaches and I'm hard pressed to find one that I regret (perhaps some approaches I did in my social circle in college).

I don't see it as time wasted, I gained some valuable skills and instincts, met most of my best friends as wings, and gained a certainty about myself that I would not possess otherwise. Also, losing my virginity took a huge weight off my shoulders.

With that being said, I've largely stopped doing it and don't really feel it's worth the effort for me at this point. If it was easier for me, however, and I could get laid with a decently attractive chick every 50 approaches, I'd probably still be doing it.

Hell, even one lay for every 250 approaches would probably be good enough for me.

Regret may just be a inevitable part of life. If we don't do an action, we regret and imagine what would have happened if it was done; if we do an action, we still think about what would have happened if we didn't do it. No matter what we do or don't do, regret accompanies ether choice equally - it's the promise of the "what if" that drives people mad.

The solution some take is to look at the dilemma as a deterministic process governed by fate without the idea of "choice". This way, so they say, that choice between two options never really existed to begin with. Whatever "choice" one makes is more or less "chosen" by a series of causes and effects. One cannot have regret this way, as one was never in a position to choose to begin with.
