If WWIII is ever started, you watch how fast the left switches from pro to anti abortion, and watch how fast our population climbs. Women will be getting pregnant left and right to try and avoid being summoned to fight for their country lol
[–]ThirstySasquatch287 points288 points289 points 6 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link
Women in the military do this now. After I finished my last bit of training, 3 females graduated with us. We all were set to deploy within a year or so. All females promptly got themselves knocked up

Hmmm, shocker. I bet they don't get disciplined either even though everybody knows it was planned. And by the way, men and women in the military aren't allowed relations with eachother, are they?
[–]ThirstySasquatch79 points80 points81 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
In my country relationships are allowed but it has to be fully disclosed to the chain of command, the two people can't be within in the same chain of command (ie: one can't be the others supervisor) and stay professional - no blantant signs of affection in uniform.
Nah, they don't recieve any discipline...they just get cushy jobs while pregnant then get like a year off. It's insane.
[–]QuantumTheories_4236 points37 points38 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Are trans allowed in your military? Could always claim you're a woman and that you're pregnant. Anybody who disagrees with you can be called a bigot

As a sailor, I can say that short answer, relationships are not discouraged.
Long answer though least when it comes to navy basically it breaks down to "fraternization"
Effectively e-1 to e-3, e-4 to e-6, e-7 to e-9 relationships within those groups are allowed that is an e-4 with an e-6 is ok, e-4 with an e-3 not.
With the slight stipulation being that as long as they are not in their direct chain of command and their relationship is not "detrimental to good order and discipline"
For the navy relationships between officers and enlisted are not allowed, even officers of another service and iirc foreign militaries too.
The only stipulation to rank differences and/or enlisted to officer is if the relationship was pre-existing prior to promotion to the next grouping.

I don’t understand. Isn’t that destruction of government property? Men have to follow bullshit reasons and get court marshaled for way less from what I’ve heard.

[–]TimVertex14 points15 points16 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I’ll say that the mere chance for it being a world war will probably cost a slight rise in birth rates in the military. Mark my words we’ll eventually see articles 5 to 7 months from now talking about a slight increase in birth rates.

You say this as if it was a joke. When my dad was "courting" my mother in the mid-50's, her father bought a new electric coffeepot. Shortly thereafter, my dad was at their house in Revere, MA, and my grandfather told (in those days, the patriarch didn't "ask" his daughters to do things) my mother to make some coffee. She put the grounds in and plugged it in and turned it on. My dad was watching and said "Aren't you going to add the water?!". My mother turned and said "You don't need water, it's electric!" My grandfather almost peed himself laughing, and my dad made the coffee since my mother stomped off in embarrassment. This isn't a new thing...

There is not going to be a third world war and certainly no one will be forced to fight in any future conflict. We are damn near 100 years past WW2 weapon tech. The only excuse one should have for getting any close to armed conflict in shithole parts of the world (conveniently, where we keep all the destruction) is it you can 1000x your rate for hazard pay as a private contractor.
[–]lgreaper66673 points74 points75 points 6 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
As a veteran of the middle east I'd honestly proclaim that WW3 already sparked off back in the early 2000's with Afghanistan as the silent sleeper. It's a shame most people just swallowed the pill the media told them to take and didn't wake up to realize where it was all headed.

To be fair, I really don't think you can argue that our involvement in the Middle East is anything approaching a World War in scale. In total the US has lost 2,372 men (as of July 7, 2018) in the war in Afghanistan, which was less than combat deaths of many days in both World Wars. Additionally, the US has not mobilized it's economy whatsoever, which I consider to be one of the hard requirements of considering a war to be serious.
[–]lgreaper666-4 points-3 points-2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
And to be fair I don't think you were there, and I also really don't think you have understood the depth as to what 9/11 sparked in the west.
All the proof anyone should need is in the budget for armament and what has been bought and not yet "used"... and yet they always say they have such good intentions to End things!

Whoa
[–]ancapexploiter21 points22 points23 points 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
I hope you are right, but keep in mind that this long peace among the Great Powers is an anomaly in the historical context. I think nuclear weapons are responsible for keeping the peace for this long, just keep in mind we are always a series of unfortunate world crises away from the next great war. All it takes is for one crazy faction or person to seize political power in a nuclear-armed country.
[–]lgreaper66616 points17 points18 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Just keep in mind this simple fact, that whom ever wins a war writes the history in their favor and to make them look like the good guys...
[–]U-945 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Except we have had space based weapon systems since the early 80s that can easily shut down nuclear weapon attacks as well as the most advanced ocean penetrating radar that can find submarines anywhere. The illusion of the nuclear threat is kept up for budgets and civilians not complaining about those budgets. It hasn't been a danger since the 60s and the millenial 'terrorist' fear mongering is what they replaced it with. Another excuse to inflate budgets without having any actual enemy.
[–]ancapexploiter5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
First of all, I never said that the existence of nuclear weapons is the threat, rather implied that war between nuclear-armed powers is the threat to worry about. You can't seriously believe that power politics among the great powers died with the Cold War. The fact that the United States developed new weapon systems to counter nuclear weapons should be proof enough that it is still alive and well. Why hasn't every country disarmed their nuclear arsenals if they are as obsolete as you seem to think they are? Every country has known since the late 1800s that keeping up with the latest weapons technology is imperative for national security. Fearmongering or not, the United States has an interest in maintaining its top status just as China and Russia have an interest in seeing the United States taken down a few pegs.
We are lucky to live in a time void of stressful world tension. World War III seems like a shitty meme if there is no real reason to be worried about it, but that doesn't mean it won't be a real fear in the future. You didn't even bother to address any of the points I made about that.
As for the space-based weapon systems, those are great to have but won't be a war-winning solution in a war between comparably armed powers. You would need to have enough counter-missile sites built to keep up with the enemy's rate of launch on top of your own offensive launch sites. That would also require having enough counter-missiles to deal with the enemy's total stockpile and also assumes they could intercept missiles launched from nearby sites. Also, would these counter weapons even work in a live war? There hasn't been an appropriate war to find out. And it isn't like one country has a monopoly on this technology.
[–]Labyrinth2_02 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Basically Reagan’s Star Wars project.
Surprised how no nation has developed something like this that disables nukes on flight.
[–]Cade_Connelly_132 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Few nations could. And among those that can most are unable to pull their heads out of their arses to do the cost/benefit ratio of not being nuked.
Because once you put air to ground weapons in space, you'll get other nations putting sat-to-sat weapons in space. There are a few nations with that capability (not that hard to damage or deorbit a sat, even with a tiny cubesat - as long as you have a precise orbit) but once you get a drone war in the exosphere, the resulting debris cloud will make space unusable. We already have a problem with orbital debris.
[–]InternetNull0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You're almost correct there. Lest we forget, a nuclear attack could also be locally detonated, for example a dirty bomb.
With small highly accurate nukes and negotiated cease fires a nuclear war could last weeks, maybe months. I think Isreal drooling to to take on Iran.

[–]redandnarrow5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Studies show that any conservative organization that doesn’t setup a filter will inevitably be polluted by cancer take down from within if it does undergo serious treatment/upheaval. Same goes for a nation, everyone will go to the most functional places, just some people go there asking for free shit or slacking off. Men with half a brain would totally flock to a country that seriously enforced fidelity, punished adultery, insured paternity, put fathers back incharge of their families and courts and incentivised women to be mothers and not negative encumbrances in the workforce and many more inefficiencies like not giving public funds to women for education/careers that were not used because they just went home to raise kids after a few years. That country would outpace all others.

[–]jdmcar-enthusiast0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Just wondering.are y'all going to refuse to get drafted to the army if the ww3 start?
[–]Stormbreaker_Axe0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No feminists in a house fire. The moment shit goes off, these short haired feminists twist their hair into little pony tails and run away, 'I'm just a girl'.
That Bill Burr bit is so true.
Also, to be fair, women didn't start this shit. I'm pretty sure it's old greedy and bitter men tricking the young, patriotic and stupid into fighting each other.

To be hones women were impliend in ww2 they worked the factories and in russia there was a whole division of wimen pilots they were flying, pretty much, cardboard planes from ww1 and bombing nazis(if im not mistaken they were called the banshees or witches or something)
Listen guys golddiggers, cougays and thots are bad but dont digress to the level of feminists hating on men, its not a men vs women thing, were figthing hipocricy, discrimination and inequality here.

If your reading twitter today...now feminists are saying that the draft is sexist...and should be abolished. What a shocker.

To be honest I kinda exictied for WW3.
Maybe I have a bit of fun.
