The difference in a nutshell:

Incels want a woman for sex, but can't get one.

MGTOWs don't want a woman.

(I know MGTOWs may still have casual sex or even casual relationships, but certainly nothing serious.)

The difference between an incel and MGTOW is that an incel blames women for all his problems and inability to get laid whereas MGTOW is a choice to forge a path without women even being a factor willingly. there is even a new breed of incel who where previously in relationships that have broken down and now they come to MGTOW to blame everything with a vagina.

After frequenting incel forums for a while to try to understand the phenomenon I must say that the biggest difference between mgtow and incel, is that mgtow genuinely do not want to have anything to do with modern women and instead want to focus on other aspects of their lives that they enjoy while incels on the other hand are desperate to get a woman but they can't, so they want society to go back to the time when most men would get a mate as sort of a reward for being responsible, having a job, being able to provide for a family etc. Some incels really go insane and start talking about having sexual socialism and being assigned a mate (more like a slave at that point?) by the state. Some in the more extreme forums even advocate to get access to children for sex, which is very worrying. Some others become violent due to all the resentment and harass and threaten women online, some others become suicidal. But the majority are just depressed because they are lonely, attacked by society and have no passions in life and their only hope left is to have a wife , kids and become a provider, which they see as an ever increasigly impossible prospect.

Mgtow men usually have hobbies and passions and they do not want to kill themselves just because they don't have a woman or a family. I see mgtow men as more self sufficient and self motivated than incels who depend on female validation to even exist.

ps: I do agree with certain aspects of the blackpill ideology some incels profess, and also I find many of their jokes and lingo very amusing. Many people think I'm an incel because I frequent their subreddit but actually I do have a gf, so I guess I'm not really mgtow though I agree almost entirely with mgtow philosophy.

Once you've come out of the shitstorm you have this empowering energy that does not last long but if you take advantage of it you can hit the gym and look like a god you can get that second job and make Bank and now you've just moved up a couple notches from being a three to being a seven whiten your teeth have your teeth straightened comb your hair treat your acne problem you can take responsibility and I don't see very much how you put it bitching and moaning about relationships apparently I don't read the same stuff you do all I see is men that have walked the path giving solid advice to young men that are open to suggestion and constructive criticism. Be that guy that takes in all the good information processes it takes out all those nuggets that apply to him and discard the rest you are responsible for yourself don't count on someone else to validate you to feed you and to give you sex you have to be the prize and throughout this communication I don't see it as bitching and moaning I'm just telling you Life is unfair, unfair is suffering suffering is life. We would all be better with the ideal of extreme ownership, we aren't victims of circumstance, hypergamy, the law or society. Those all may be real issues, but they aren't something that defines us. This is a path I chose freely and of my own volition and it's one I'm am so thankful I stumbled upon.

I would say it's more than just personal responsibility.

MGTOW mindset eschews the need for female companionship in one's life. It focuses on personal betterment and improvement of one's own environment and life. Personal responsibility is a large part of that, but it's not the sole component.

Incel mindset, on the other hand, still focuses heavily on the need for female companionship. They've put the pussy on a pedestal and are desperate to get laid, but they haven't found a woman who is desperate enough for dick to allow them to get in their panties. They lament the fact that no woman wants to fuck them despite them being the nice guy or the best option for m'lady. They don't get that the riders on the cock carousel that they're aiming for don't want the nice guy, they want Chad Thundercock, the man that knows they're the king shiznit, because they're attracted to confidence and power. If the basement-dwelling woman-hating incels would actually get off their ass and do something to better themselves, like eat a salad and exercise, they might start feeling better about themselves, which in turn would more attractive to the female of the species. But they don't. They're too stuck in their "poor me" mindset to realize that they are the source of their own problems - that's where the personal responsibility comes into play, but for the wrong reasons. If they tried bettering themselves it'd still be in pursuit of the trim, so they'd still end up as bluepilled simps in the long run.
