Lifting is how we typically talk about working out, but what we are really doing is sending our musculature a message that we need MORE MUSCLE. You do this by using resistance to work your muscles such that they get the message that you need to be stronger. Weights are just one of dozens of ways to get resistance.
There are a lot of systems posted in the Internet for how to workout, but what is missing is how to know when you've done enough in your workout.
See the linked video from Drew Baye about when to stop. As a CSCS I heartily recommend the advice he gives on www.baye.com.
The only thing wrong with his advice is that you only need about 30 or less minutes a week of working out to reach your maximum, safe muscle gain. His workouts don't take up enough time to use them as your hobby when you need time away from your LTR.
I've been doing this style of workout for more than five years with no injury. I am 63 years old. I continue to grow in strength , although quite slowly after this many years.
