I recently had a physical exam. Due to low libido, feeling tired/foggy all the time, and feeling like a bitch, I asked for free and total testosterone as part of my lab work. Some of the medical complaints have been brought up in my past posts - enjoy my whining in my post history if you feel like it.

Lab results showed normal total T, but low free T (which is what is actually useful for your cells). I'm a younger guy, only 30. My GP didn't care too much despite the fact that free T was actually outside the reference range.

I scheduled a follow up with a doctor recommended by a local compounding pharmacy. I've seen story after story of doctors dismissing men that are having symptoms. I also read that calling up a local compounding pharmacy, who are frequently employed to prepare testosterone prescriptions, and asking for a referral is a good starting point, so I did.

The pharmacist referred me to a local sports med/anti-aging doc (NOT a clinic, a private office) who even happens to work with my insurance.

Appointment today- doc talked through my labs and symptoms. He said SHBG is likely high, typically with unknown cause. Some people's livers just make more. He ordered more extensive blood work, looking at PSA, estradiol, free/total test, DHT.

He said he will start me on 100mg test injectable per week, said to read up and come back in two weeks with questions. Test is just $150/10mL, enough to last for 20 weeks. He also prescribes ancillaries (arimidex, HCG) based on need and bloodwork as he titrates dosages up/down.

Based on my symptoms and his experience, he was completely sure I would be feeling much better after supplementing. He even said he treats patients and symptoms- not lab results. Awesome experience.

I can't yet say that this will be an important step in my own self-improvement. I suspect it will help significantly. Just doing something about the medical problems I've merely complained about over the last years makes me want to pat my own back.

TLDR; if you feel like a pussy, get a physical, check you free/total T. If you have issues, find a male doctor that works with men's hormones.
