This is out of touch with even my dating experience, and I'm 10-15 years older than the average redditor. Even my mother would think it strange. It's like it was written by my grandmother.

When was the last time somebody age 14+, outside of TV or a movie, even said "going steady"?

1. Coming to the door to pick someone up.

We thought you wanted to be treated as equals. I'm not about to go up to my buddy's door when I'm picking him up to go to the hockey game, I expect him to be ready because he's a grown adult who knows when I'm picking him up.

2. Trying to dress really nicely for a date.

I'm sorry, I thought what a person was wearing wasn't supposed to make a difference?

3. Bringing flowers or other tokens of affection to the first date.

I'm starting to think that you're under the impression that nicely-dressed men who give you things are somehow more desireable than normal men who just want to spend time getting to know you. Are you implying that there is some type of preference among women with regards to how a man looks and behaves? Because men get bitched at all the time for having such preferences. Funny how that double-standard works, huh?

4. Going dancing that’s not grinding on a grimy club floor.

I just don't get this. No one wants this.

5. Straightforwardly asking someone out and not calling it “hanging out.”

In case you haven't heard, since 2000, doing that is now called "sexual harassment" or in some cases "rape".

6. Additionally, being clear about when you’re “going steady.”

I think that it's clear that we would be willing to do exactly that, provided we were more interested in what you have to say than what the score of the Bruins game is. Have you considered that you might just be boring?

I mean, seriously? You're going to write a whole article about how men should be more old-fashioned when it comes to dating, because it makes everything so much more magical and all that, and then say that a guy should ask permission before trying to hold your hand? You're trying to inject romance into something you feel is losing that spark, and then you suggest something that takes any shred of romance and anticipation away?

10. Not assuming sex is to be had at any point in time.

How about not assuming it's all men are after? Ever think that maybe men act a certain way around you because you make that assumption? Did that even occur to you at all?

7 is also kind of corny but if you have the talent for that then by all means.

The conditioning is sub-conscious, so they can't even tell they are doing it. Wanting one thing until they get it that is. 9 times out of 10, when a girl does find herself with a man that does this, she can't help but think less of him for it. To walk all over him as a result. I used to enjoy buying little trinkets for my SO every other day or so. I'd see something she'd like for cheap and just leave it on the bathroom counter or etc for her, just to see her smile. Classic feminist programming. The very actions us men were instructed would put us 'over the top' in the romance department end up being the very same actions that destroy our own value in their eyes.
