If you've reached adulthood and are male then you're already a man.

You don't have to prove anything to anyone nor conform to their beliefs as long as you're not harming anyone.

From my observations, in the society your worth and value as a male is decided by your status and the things you do, so that's where I think such phrases arise, where men are expected to fend for themselves or take responsibility for everything that happens to them. You are always viewed as a potential threat.

'Be a man' is manipulating and shaming. You are a man by birthright. I'm sorry but its not something you gotta go out and prove. All this stuff about bravery and valor and this and that. Most people do that just for attention and because they are narcissistic. From the fem. perspective....you need to be a man when it serves them and that 'manliness' is providing some job or favor for them. But the moment it doesn't serve their warped worldview you are no longer 'being a man'...it becomes 'toxic masculinity'.

I know. It's an extremely tricky one! It was used in my country of birth many decades ago to mean many things: be honest, face your oppressor, face your own demons. It was used to motivate. It was also used to ask men not to express their feelings, not to be gay or seem like a gay, or, to dismiss men's complaints or difficulties.

Now, in a period of unsettled gender norms, feminists will tell us that men can't express their feelings, and that our version of masculinity is toxic.

2 days ago, literally have a girlfriend of mine telling me: yeah, I say it and I assume it, you are not a man if you don't pay for a woman's bill.

My opinion is: women will have to have a discussion between them about gender roles and about what they really want!

I hate this phrase a lot, same like all things which refer being manly. Dont get me wrong i like feeling like man. But hearing those things from others is just weird. I want to be myself and i want to be judged as a person and not based on being a man. But that counts for men and women i guess.

I want to add that this is also the reason why i dislike gendering, all this refering to sex and gender sounds weird. Just want to be adressed on my person and nothing else.

there is no proper way to be a man or woman in my opinion. The only thing you should be required not to do, is being a dick. Anyone can be a dick. And don't commit crimes, unless it's necessary.

Being a man is actions.

Being yourself, working into your future, tackling your problems, not complaining about something when you can do it, being kind, respectful and lovely.

There's no tomorrow. Change yourself or stay buried.

This is what being a man means. You can be handsome but without actions you're a child.
