My wife left suddenly 8 months ago with my 16 year old daughter to the other side of the country after a series of arguments. There was no violence.

Anyway, I am really grateful she came back and to give her credit we did talk everyday. There were a bunch of precipitating events i.e. 2 of our 3 kids left for college, she developed really bad back pain , and I got depressed after having to abruptly stop an antidepressant for a serious side effect. I have ptsd from child abuse, and so I am by no means not taking responsibility for my contribution to the problem. On top of that , financial difficulties as I went partially blind suddenly and had to stop my career as a surgeon.

Anyway, she’s back , yeah ! But there is definitely sone stressors. She sleeps in a separate room downstairs, sex is off the table for right now until we reconnect. She has been a bit of a ‘house fascist ‘ and very strict about keeping the house clean. Fair enough. I think the whole cleaning craze is just her getting back to her roost. No sex is fine as I can understand wanting to connect before she gets physical with me. Besides, I don’t want to pressure her. Not sleeping in the same bed is a bit hard as I am not going to grope her and if she is tired, I can not talk to her. I am trying to listen better and really clean up more as I do now realize how much work goes into a clean house , having been on my own for 8 months.

Besides obvious things such as going on dates, and just being kind, letting go of blame, forgiving (I have done that as I am ecstatic she is back), has anyone been in my shoes and what can they advise ? Anyone know of good books on the subject ?

I think I have to work on being patient and let go of any residual feelings of being rejected. I am pretty much shouldering the lion share of the reason why we separated having mental illness ( ptsd ) , for which I am getting therapy and meds for. It’s a bit unfair, as I am pretty sure my wife was having a midlife crisis which inflammed aspects of my ptsd. But I am ecstatic she is back, so I have accepted I am the ‘fall guy ‘ .. It’s fine . I just want us to be happy together.
