I got into a conversation a few months ago at my in-laws house. My SIL is a SJW left-wing. I don't even remember what we were talking about and out of no where she says "There is never ever a reason to hit a woman."

Let's look at the sentence again "There is never ever a reason to hit a woman." So it doesn't matter what she is doing to you and for what reason, she has the pussy pass / get out of jail free card.

She is attacking you, and you have asked her to repeatedly to stop, nope can't touch her, and she can just keep wailing on you.

So I asked "OK, so I what point does a man, as a human being have the right to defend himself against a woman who is attacking him, causing him physical harm?"

Her stupid ass answer? "He should just walk away."

Me: "OK, what if he is trying to do that and she just keeps it up?"

Her stupid ass answer? "Well men are physically stronger than women..." Translation: So basically just man up and take it pussy.

So I asked her "OK so I should be able to walk up to a guy that weighs 230-240 lbs, sucker punch him in the face and because I'm physically weaker than him, he should just take it, and not have a reason to hit me?"

The subject then got changed by my MIL and my wife. Then my wife had the nerve to start saying shit to me like I'm some kind of woman beater abuser later that night when we got home.

I looked at her and said we have know each other since middle school correct? "Yes."

We have been married for over 20 years, have I ever once ever laid a hand on you? "No."

"But I'm a woman beater / abuser for asking question and not agreeing with what was being said? I have a daughter, who I would not want to be abused, you know what? I also have two sons too."

[–]Lethn 55 points56 points57 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That sort of attitude is often held by somebody who has never faced a threatening situation in their lives or had to defend themselves in any way. I've seen that kind of shit before, it's an argument from a position of ignorance, the fact that she actually thinks you can just run away from an attacker at all times or just stand there and take it indicates how little she knows about this.

I'm sure you know all that though, you seem to have argued it pretty well.

[–]Luchadorgreen 34 points35 points36 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No offense but your wife went into pure bitch mode if she accused you of being a woman beater. Like, that's really low.

[–]Drekalo 17 points18 points19 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Especially since if he was the woman beater she would have been the woman being beaten... And you know, wasn't actually ever beaten.

Strange woman you don't know grabs your toddler from the park and starts running towards a windowless cargo van with a man waiting in the driver's seat.

"Sorry hon, can't touch a woman"

Crazy stalker woman won't take no for an answer and starts threatening your wife/gf with a knife out of jealously.

"Sorry babe, wouldn't want to be abusive you'll have to handle this one"

[–]isaywatiwantbitch 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

yup, deflect and shame, zero arguments..

[–]WorkshopX 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That sounds about right.

Your wife sounds like this one girl I dated.

I was dating this girl for 8 months. We would have great sex, go on awesome dates, geek out to things, even went on trips together.

One time when we went up to a little mountain town with her I learned that she was a big feminist, and I made the mistake of mentioning that guys also get abused too.

After the mountain trip she started avoiding me for months, yet every once in a while she send me unsolicited sexual pictures over Snapchat: pictures of her breasts, pictures of her pussy, things being put inside her, etc. Yet when I would ask to meet up with her she would avoid me.

I finally got fed up with and told her to stop sexually manipulating me like one of her sex toys.

She flipped out and went on the usual talking points that I have experienced in previous relationships with feminists:

  • All men are evil (even though I had her admit later in text that I never abused her...ever)
  • That I was a pig who only wanted sex.
  • That she never liked me.
  • That my dick was too small.
  • That I was expendable as a man and that I should know it.
  • That the only reason she was with me was because "she was bored".
  • That I was not smart enough to understand "true feminism".

Just to keep score: she gaslighted me, lied to me, sexual harassed me, attacked my masculinity, insulted me, emotionally abused me, and tried to mentally abuse me.

She used our strong sexual, emotional, and physical attraction as a way of punishing me for standing up for myself as a man.

[–]Aivias 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Heres my pussy

PIG! Only wants sex!!

....

[–]obh36 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But it's still sexist to say men are stronger than women

[–]LedZeppelin1602 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hmm. She was pretty much stating that physically abusive men deserve to get physically assaulted as opposed to all men or non-violent men.

I can't disagree. If you're a physically abusive person you do deserve a slap. The in public thing I disagree with though

[–]NebulousASK 27 points28 points29 points 8 years ago (48 children) | Copy Link

It's wrong for men to hit women, but perfectly ok for women to hit men?

Except that's not what she said. She said it's wrong for men to physically abuse women, and it would be good if those men got hit in public.

Wanting physical abusers to, themselves, get hit as punishment is not hypocritical.

[–]Lethn 22 points23 points24 points 8 years ago (41 children) | Copy Link

You clicked onto this better than I did, but to add to your point, I've seen the mentality of feminists like this who get so aggressive on this issue. They think that men shouldn't even defend themselves from women who try to attack them, granted, this particular one might be different but feminism is very much trying to make it illegal for husbands or boyfriends to defend themselves if they are genuinely being attacked by their female partners.

Feminism isn't trying to do that. Stop lying.

It's called the Duluth Model and police forces have been using it for years when dealing with domestic violence and anyone with a brain looking at this can see that it tries to claim men are the perpetrators and women the victims and is something feminists pushed for, you stop lying.

[+]dictormagic -15 points-14 points-13 points 8 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

Prove that feminists pushed for it. You show me one thing and then you say a bunch of lies. Police also like to assume black people commit crimes, and their pictures are illustrated to show this fact. Stop being an idiot.

[–]Celda 20 points21 points22 points 8 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

LOL the Duluth Model was created by feminists!

Not to mention feminists trying to suppress evidence showing that half of DV is committed by women.

Ew, it’s like you’ve never read a scientific paper in your life and don’t know how to properly vet sources. Here’s a hint, that’s not a good one. Furthermore, what you’ve said is absurd. Whatever though, you’re just either going to link me another bogus source, claim I’m a sjw cuck or some shit

[–]Celda 18 points19 points20 points 8 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

LOL...you do realize that the author of that paper, Murray Strauss, was a prestigious scholar?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murray_A._Straus

Straus' research focused on families, corporal punishment, and intimate partner violence with an emphasis on cross-national comparisons.[2][3][4] He founded the Family Research Laboratory at the University of New Hampshire.[5] Straus served as president of the Society for the Study of Social Problems (1989-90) and the Eastern Sociological Society (1991-92).[6] He was also a founding editor of the peer-review academic journals Teaching Sociology and Journal of Family Issues.[6]

Furthermore, what you’ve said is absurd.

How is it absurd? That's a statement of fact, which I demonstrated.

Here's another source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3175099/

Domestic violence agencies, staffed by almost exclusively feminists, treated male helpseekers like this:

Men seeking help from DV agencies, hotlines, and via the Internet answered questions that addressed the reception they received when seeking help. The results are displayed in Table 3. Between 25–33% reported being referred by a DV hotline or an online resource to a local program that was helpful. The remaining experiences were not as positive. A large proportion of those who sought help from DV agencies (49.9%), DV hotlines (63.9%), or online resources (42.9%) were told, “We only help women.” Of the 132 men who sought help from a DV agency, 44.1% (n=86) said that this resource was not at all helpful; further, 95.3% of those men (n=81) said that they were given the impression that the agency was biased against men. Some of the men were accused of being the batterer in the relationship: This happened to men seeking help from DV agencies (40.2%), DV hotlines (32.2%) and online resources (18.9%). Over 25% of those using an online resource reported that they were given a phone number for help which turned out to be the number for a batterer’s program. The results from the open-ended questions showed that 16.4% of the men who contacted a hotline reported that the staff made fun them, as did 15.2% of the men who contacted local DV agencies

But I guess you're just going to claim that all sources provided are "bogus"...meanwhile providing zero evidence yourself.

They're asking for a scientific reference that shows that feminists pushed the Duluth model. As in, asking for a study with a hypothesis that shows feminists did it.

You're arguing with a troll that doesn't understand the difference between history and science. It's fun to read but probably a waste of your time.

ETA: A quick scroll through u/dictormagic's post history reveals him to be a racist asshole that tells others to kill themselves. Not worth anyone's time here.

[–]Celda 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

They're asking for a scientific reference that shows that feminists pushed the Duluth model. As in, asking for a study with a hypothesis that shows feminists did it.

That makes no sense...why would there need to be a scientific reference for a simple fact?

That's like asking for a study showing that the Affordable Care Act was proposed under the Obama government. You don't need a study showing that.

ETA: A quick scroll through u/dictormagic 's post history reveals him to be a racist asshole that tells others to kill themselves. Not worth anyone's time here.

Ah, I see.

[–]dictormagic -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

How am I racist in the slightest? Now you're just throwing around words to make yourself feel better about disagreeing with me lmao

I'm not asking for scientific reference that shows feminists pushed the Duluth model. I'm literally asking for any evidence. Anything at all that shows major feminist leaders created and/or pushed the Duluth model.

[–]dictormagic -3 points-2 points-1 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

You're trying to argue by authority, but have you looked at the paper you linked? Admittedly, the scientific papers I read are not sociology papers so I could be wrong, but it's very clearly not as credible as you want it to be. Where is the abstract, where are the sections clearly laid out? Where is the methodology, the description of the people tested on? The conclusions to be drawn? While in the paper, probably, the formatting alone suggests the paper is not the source you make it out to be. Furthermore, I can find 1000s of different papers in sociology that say the exact opposite of what that one paper said by scholars 1000s of times more prestigious than the late Strauss. This is similar to the fact that I can find a paper or two by actual biologists claiming evolutionary theory is wrong, when the majority of scientific thinking suggests otherwise. Please, try not to make such a shitty argument.

As for your second point, that's rough, but again does not prove feminists are pushing for men that are abused to be silenced like you claim. All you've proven is that people (incorrectly) believe only women can be assaulted by their partners. Which is wrong, and also not in line with feminist thought.

I'm didn't originally ask for evidence, I merely called someone a liar because it is not true that feminists believe men cannot be abused by women. This fact can be learned by interacting with people outside your comfort zone, and actually being an activist and going outside. Which you probably don't do.

Also, please show me where it is written that the Duluth model was created by feminists

[–]Celda 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

You're trying to argue by authority, but have you looked at the paper you linked? Admittedly, the scientific papers I read are not sociology papers so I could be wrong, but it's very clearly not as credible as you want it to be.

No, it's not an appeal (not argument) to authority. Strauss doesn't say "I'm right because I'm a big-shot academic", which would be an appeal to authority. Strauss gives actual statements of fact to support his argument.

E.g.

The Canadian Violence against Women survey (Johnson and Sacco 1995), for example, used what can be called a feminist version of thc Conflict Tactics Scales to measure PY. This version omitted the questions on perpetration by the female participants in the study.

Notice how that is merely a statement of fact that supports his argument, not an appeal to authority?

Furthermore, I can find 1000s of different papers in sociology that say the exact opposite of what that one paper said by scholars 1000s of times more prestigious than the late Strauss.

I highly doubt you can find thousands of papers stating that feminists don't try to suppress evidence of female-perpetrated domestic violence. In fact, I doubt you could find even a handful.

As for your second point, that's rough, but again does not prove feminists are pushing for men that are abused to be silenced like you claim.

All feminists, no.

Some feminists, yes. That fact is undeniable. What proportion of feminists is debatable, but it's certainly not rare.

Another example: https://68.media.tumblr.com/f33b49eb2c85f89663e298e9c1911945/tumblr_oo7pk0tzpn1qi6cc0o1_1280.png

And yes, that is a real quote which appeared in The Red Pill documentary, I have personally watched it and saw that quote.

https://www.theduluthmodel.org/what-is-the-duluth-model/frequently-asked-questions/

The battering of women by men continues to be a significant social problem–men commit over 85% of all criminal assaults and women are killed 3.5 times more often than men in domestic homicides. Not naming this gender disparity, and the continued underlying social, cultural and institutional structures that support it, keeps us from naming the social problem for what it is. While we do recognize there are cases of domestic violence other than male perpetrated violence against women, even in those cases the perpetrator’s sense of entitlement to control or dominate another remains the predominant cause of violence.

When women use violence in an intimate relationship, the circumstances of that violence tend to differ from when men use violence. Men’s use of violence against women is learned and reinforced through many social, cultural and institutional experiences. Women’s use of violence does not have the same kind of societal support.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irVB8b0zhQI

https://medium.com/iron-ladies/men-are-still-pigs-the-politicization-of-domestic-violence-2cfa7488c204

Domestic violence laws in their current state are not there to protect anyone, they are there to criminalise men and victimise women even if the victims in various cases are actually men and yes, it is feminists that are responsible for this.

Stop calling me a liar when I'm not.

[+]dictormagic -11 points-10 points-9 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You haven’t proven once that feminists are responsible for this. You liar.

[–]ionstorm20 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Albeit, I only know of what I read online, so I'll use this excerpt from Wikipedia.

Origin and theory

The Domestic Abuse Intervention Project was the first multi-disciplinary program designed to address the issue of domestic violence. This experimental program, conducted in Duluth in 1981, coordinated the actions of a variety of agencies dealing with domestic conflict. The Duluth model curriculum was developed by a "small group of activists in the battered women’s movement" [3] with 5 battered women and 4 men as subjects. The program has become a model for programs in other jurisdictions seeking to deal more effectively with domestic violence.[4]

The feminist theory underlying the Duluth Model is that men use violence within relationships to exercise power and control. This is illustrated by the "Power and Control Wheel," a graphic typically displayed as a poster in participating locations.[5][6] According to the Duluth Model, "women and children are vulnerable to violence because of their unequal social, economic, and political status in society."[7] Treatment of abusive men is focused on re-education, as "we do not see men’s violence against women as stemming from individual pathology, but rather from a socially reinforced sense of entitlement." [8] The program's philosophy is intended to help batterers work to change their attitudes and personal behavior so they would learn to be nonviolent in any relationship.

That being said, what do I know? I'm only smart enough to know that I don't know much about the thinking that went into it. Of course even one of the creators says that it's opponents of feminism whom have problems with this bill.

But then again, what do I know?

Edit - I also wanted to point out that after the fact, many seem to say that Ellen Pence is a feminist, but I don't know if she labeled herself as such during her life. Either way, the idea of the Duluth model was generally accepted for years as a provocative and powerful win for self proclaimed feminists for years until the damage it caused became apparent.

[–]Stripes1974 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I won't claim that feminism is actively trying to push for this beyond social acceptance, but yes, with regards to social acceptance, it is more than easily found that the perception is that women committing violence against men, even in public and with multiple witnesses, is perfectly fine, but that male defense against such physical violence by a women is aberrant. The mentality of "men shouldn't hit a woman" is very strong in the social consciousness.

That particular mentality, in my opinion, needs to change.

[–]dictormagic -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Most feminists would agree that the ‘men shouldn’t hit women’ is stupid, and should be changed to ‘people shouldn’t hit people’. Claiming otherwise just shows you’ve never interacted with a single real feminist in your life

[–]Stripes1974 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You'd be wrong about that, too.
I don't claim that "feminists" are trying to promote that "men shouldn't hit women [but it's okay for women to hit men]" as an agenda. All I said- and all I'm saying- is that our collective social environment says that this is "okay", when videos of women hitting men-- and men either aren't hitting them back, and women keep on hitting them, with witness and everything, and no one is stopping her, are up on the internet. Or, if the man in question does hit back, suddenly he's surrounded by everyone who was just watching him being hit by this women, and cautioning him not to hit her (again). Those videos are out there. And if they weren't a part of our social "acceptance" of such behavior, they wouldn't still be up on the internet.

But, you can take the so-called "high ground" all you like. Your claim of "you’ve never interacted with a single real feminist in your life" is just as wrong as your claims that "most feminists" would agree with your way of thinking. I won't claim that all of them feel that women should be allowed to hit men, but I will allow that the majority of them do believe that a man shouldn't hit a woman. And only when it's pointed out to them, would they then say "oh, well, people should keep their hands to themselves".

[–]chadwickofwv 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

And you're obviously a feminist. Never have I met one that was capable of thinking for themselves, and they are all cowards. On the other hand, in order to take a stand for men's rights you actually have to put yourself at risk. We know that the vast majority view us as evil, but we were capable of seeing past our genetic predisposition to always defer to women and actually see how they behave without the rose colored glasses.

Physical abuse:

Any intentional act causing injury or trauma to another person or animal by way of bodily contact.

Keyword: Intentional

She said it's wrong for men to physically abuse women

Intentional act of physical abuse = Wrong.

You said:

Wanting physical abusers to, themselves, get hit as punishment

Intentional act of physical abuse = Wrong.

Conclusion:

Two wrongs ≠ right.

[–]Stripes1974 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It is very hypocritical, however, when the sentiment is that
A) Men shouldn't hit women...but they need to be slapped in public.
Because this doesn't specifically differentiate between men who are abusive to women and men who are not abusive to women. It simply states that "men" shouldn't hit women, but that [some] men- and implication does not equal definition- should be slapped in public. This is condemning physical action towards women, but condoning physical action towards men.
B) It is wrong for men to physically abuse women...but it is okay for men who do physically abuse women, to themselves be abused, and in public.
Physical abuse is not right, no matter the gender. There is not ever a time when it is "alright" or "okay" to publicly physically abuse someone, no matter whether they are female OR male.
C) "There is never ever a reason to hit a woman...He should just walk away...Well men are physically stronger than women..."
Unless attacked, a person should not be putting their hands on anyone. This includes women, and statements like those above make condoning of women hitting men, while men are supposed to "walk away".
D) Man: "I was a victim of physical abuse by a woman" Woman: "Shut your mouth. Oh, and fuck you."
Wanting physical abusers to, themselves, get hit as punishment is condoned...as long as the alleged abuser is male. If/When the abuser is female, the situation is supposed to default to "men shouldn't hit women" and "your victim status doesn't matter; shut up and be quiet".

I'm only pointing out that there is much hypocrisy to be found there, because there is too much rhetoric regarding ending violence and abuse towards women, but very little about ending violence and abuse for everyone.

Very well said.

[–]salsaSals 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

and it would be good if those men got hit in public.

The point remains that she was framing domestic violence purely as a male on female issue when in fact women are more likely to hit their partners (and their children).

[–]GreatGrizzly 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

No one should be hit, ever.

This girl basically said "I should have the ability to slap guys around whenever I want. I promise just to hit the ones that are deserving of it though, I swear! You must be a woman abuser because you dont like the fact that I want to enact vigilante justice whenever I want."

She then completely ignores the fact that I was a victim of the very abuse she describes.

Yeah I'm with this. She was right and he was looking to be offended.

[–]JoelMahon 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

No, dude, you're making us look bad.

Anyone with a basic level of reading comprehension can clearly tell "some men" in this context is men who are abusers.

While vigilantism isn't great, I think a slap as revenge for domestic abuse is kinda fine.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Sure, but I'd be calling her out for her focus on men only, too. Even if 'some men' is the implication, she's not talking about some people, but some men, right?

[–]Hypt1929 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's just fine, but adding in the "fuck you" was just childish.

[–]JoelMahon -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's fair out of context, but for all I know it's a post of a study on how men are more likely to domestically abuse if they have only one parent and girls are less likely or something. My point is without context I don't think you can make that judgement in this case.

And even if the context isn't in her favour the response is still worse.

[–]GreatGrizzly 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

Except there is a second part to the post: her claiming I am one of those abusers because I called her out on her hypocrisy.

No one should have the power to enact some sort of vigilante justice through physical abuse.

[–]JoelMahon -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

So congrats you're both assholes? She hadn't said anything wrong until after you misconstrued her.

[–]GreatGrizzly 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Except the whole "slapping guys because I think they deserve it part".

[–]JoelMahon 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Except the whole that was specifically directed towards abusers part. You seriously don't think it's okay to slap someone who has committed domestic abuse?

[–]GreatGrizzly 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

It's not ok to physically hurt someone, period.

We live in a society where we have a justice system that is supposed to punish people after they get their due process.

Letting someone slap someone around because they think they deserve it is a dangerous situation that shouldn't exist in a modern society.

Any real feminist (at least the ones that truely want equality) should agree with that statement.

[–]JoelMahon 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's not ok to physically hurt someone, period.

I assume that period doesn't include self defence? I mean you're going to find very few allies that disagree with harming someone in self defence.

Letting someone slap someone around because they think they deserve it is a dangerous situation that shouldn't exist in a modern society.

Again, twisting words, do you ever interpret what someone says as actually what they say or do you have to change its meaning? This isn't letting someone, it's doing it yourself when you actually know they're guilty.

Any real feminist (at least the ones that truely want equality) should agree with that statement.

Uh no, what we're talking about here has nothing to do with sex, I'm also cool with female abusers getting slapped.

[–]GreatGrizzly 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Enacting vigilante justice on someone just because you don't like them or what they have done has no place in a modern society. It doesn't matter whether you are male or female or something in between.

You trying to derail my very very clear statement tells me that your intentions for this debate are not well natured and that it is a complete waste of time to argue this with you.

[–]JoelMahon 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol very clear statement, "under no circumstances" but self defence is okay! Is not clear.

[–]chambertlo 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, and all women are potential murderers since they are able to abort a fetus.

At least mine is supported by logic.

[–]Mythandros 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Typical feminist response. The moment they can't justify feminist hypocrisy, they attack with insults and demonization. It shows that they know you are right but are too stupid to admit it.

[–]KingRobotPrince 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Isn't she saying men who physically abuse their partners deserve to be slapped? Then she goes on to say in reply that if that person does not physically abuse his partner then he is not who she is talking about.

[–]GreatGrizzly 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No one should be physically attacked, ever. Also no one should be allowed to enact vigilante justice just because they think the person deserves it.

[–]jeff_the_nurse 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I love watching feminists argue. They get triggered at a minimal defense of any man, and then just randomly ramble. It's quite comedic.
