That's not even close to the truth. The most common type of protein is whey, which is essentially evaporated milk that gets separated from the fat and casein through a relatively simple process. With the amount of carbs and sugar in our diets today, there aren't many people (especially athletes) who wouldn't be better off supplementing protein than not doing so.
