My first thought when reading this is that it's a terrible idea.

Now school administrations have a monetary incentive to minimize the number of REPORTED sexual assault statistics and either shift it to the local community system, or start to label it as something else.

Also, how do you rank based on "how they prevent and respond"? Do high numbers of quick expulsions get you bonus points? It sounds like "bringing the hammer" to every case is going to be a positive financial decision.

My concern with this is that it will be taken as a reason to give colleges more authority to determine guilt in sexual assault/rape cases.

I want these cases to be handled by our society's justice system. Where guilt isn't determined by kangaroo courts and where criminals can be punished with the full authority of the law (and not just kicked out of school).

No, Harlan, college administrators will have a financial interest in making sure the numbers are as favorable as they can get away with. Check the gaming that goes on in the law school rankings. Employment statistics are as of 9 months after graduation, so schools offer 10 month paid internships in public service to be able to report good numbers.

Besides, colleges are already required by law to report the crime statistics, with carefully controlled definitions. Let's ask USNWR to use those numbers.
