I always got the vibe rape has been treated as a serious crime cause people thought it only happened to women and by default that would make the crime bad (of course we know that’s complete bulls*** and likely has always been a lie) however I wonder if there ever came a time male victims weren’t treated like how they are now but instead given the same respect and sympathy as female victims and of course acknowledgement would this change the view of rape in general cause I think it would. This might explain one of the reasons make victims get the treatment they do cause everyone knows they will not view rape the same way anymore if they were afforded the same respect so they have to cognitively disassociate themselves from the crime and act like it doesn’t happen or this would have a knock on effect of then not viewing rape as serious when it happens to women either basically they need to uphold the image of rape as this sanctioned act used to be arguably the ultimate brutalization of the female body and obviously this thinking wouldn’t Work of male victims were not only acknowledged but more important given the same level of sympathy as female ones they have to uphold this idealized idea of rape. This hasn’t been a good revelation if it’s true and it means male victims will never be afforded respect.
