Help me understand the logic behind equal prize money for men's and women's Wimbledon?

Simple logic: The Wimbledon organiser pay the women "equal" prize money, because it's a small price to pay to stop them being demonised by SJWs, FemNazis, liberals, the BBC, lesbian tennis players etc.

This demonisation might well, in reality, cause them commercial issues, such as pushback from sponsors and advertisers, difficulties from broadcasters, constant bad press etc.

So it simply makes good commercial sense. And the "extra" they are paying, is small change compared to the overall income they make from the Wimbledon tournament.

They never will because men don't stand up for themselves, but the men of tennis should now start demanding to have equal set time as women. 14 sets instead of 21 immediately in the name of equality.

I'm a feminist, so I believe equal prize money is the only fair thing to do...as well as eliminating the artificial separations between the sexes. We shouldn't have mens/womens tennis at all...just "Tennis".

I'd say it's because it's the only sport that the women draw as many fans to the arena as men, if not more. Yea, the men might play longer and therefore generate slightly more TV revenue, but both the men and women benefit from each other. When Serena is playing for the grand slam, the men's ratings go up. And when nadal had a huge winning streak, the women's ratings went up. I am perfectly fine with the same purse in this situation. This isn't an outrage like the soccer teams

Tennis is a very top heavy sport in terms of revenue and compensation.

Once you dip out of say the top 20 men and women in ranking the income from prize money and endorsements drops very sharply. Endorsement/sponsor money will start to disappear save for former great players who may have longer term deals still in effect and whose earlier round matches might be televised because of their name.

Once you get out of the top 200 rankings it becomes a battle for players to break even. The big push now in tennis is not to worry about making the rich get richer, but to help out the young up and coming players so they can survive long enough in the game to see if they can develop.

Worrying about what a few millionaires make winning a grand slam event is pretty low on the list of things to worry about even when it comes to professional tennis. But, having said that the tournaments make their money off of the top 10 (and maybe even the top 5) men and women players. There is always room for an upstart to make a nice story line, but because the sport is so international even fans who pay attention beyond the grand slams will have a hard time naming a player ranked below 20. Just by way of example, the US has one men's player ranked in the top 20 singles, and if you stood around a public tennis court on a nice day and asked the folks playing to name the top ranked US men's player I doubt anyone could. And, of course, the same is true on the women's side once you get past the Williams sisters. Venture outside of the grand slam events and then no one cares at all save for how the top players are doing.

Tennis is a female sport and they wear those short skirts. Mens tennis is ok, but mens breasts don't heave when they hit the ball. Thus is why female soccer does not do well. The outfits are not cute and men cant see jiggly tits.

This is why tennis is the only female dominated sport.

I'm gonna have to say your wrong on this one guy. Ask literally anyone on the planet to name a tennis player and I promise they're gonna say Venus or Serena. Tennis is a female dominated sport that's just the way it is. Also this article has some very well made counterpoints to your argument that equal time on the court is the same as equal work.
