How far are we from artificial womb technology?

This would make a great question for r/science or r/technology. Lot of seriously over-informed (in a positive way) members on those subs. I suspect the technology is a long way off: a developing fetus is an incredibly complex thing.

I do know cloning has a long way to go; they haven't even cloned a monkey yet, and not even the "successfully" cloned animals are that close to a genetic match to the 'parent' organism. There are huge genetic flaws and missing pieces of code/DNA. All they know about the "successful" cloned animals is that they are healthy enough to survive and be edible without poisoning humans.

I've never put much stock in artificial womb concepts; if the agriculture industry isn't bothering with it (and they aren't) then it's clearly not cost effective enough to be worth doing on any great scale.

One article I saw, written by a postdoc in ~2010, stated that she expected the technology to become commercially available in 40 years' time. I can dig up the reference if you want it.

Various demographics would be interested in the technology. Some women might see it as a means to stay employed during their pregnancies (Shulamith Firestone, a notable early feminist, actually mentioned them in relation to this), while male homosexual couples would benefit from being able to have children on their own. That said, many women would see these wombs as competition and may react either by trying to become more "competitive" relative to the wombs or rallying under a new wave of feminism.

Feminism would, of course, want to heavily regulate the use of artificial wombs, possibly to prevent men from using them altogether. Nonetheless, my estimate is that if women or any other entity were to try to limit enough men's access to artificial wombs in any state, that state would experience riots, intense political campaigning and/or mass emigration. I know that I, for one, would not tolerate someone preventing me from having children unless there were some very good reasons behind it (as opposed to "you're male and we want to subjugate you").

Feminists have often talked of animal species giving birth without input of males, or where males are wholly absent. They also talked with relish how Y chromosome would disappear and men along with it. Of course some of them do fear and realize the fact that since man is better than those animals, the situation might well be reversed in its case.
