After commenting on one thread and reading a few others, it seems that people cannot separate two ideas, namely radical feminism/misandry and just feminism.

Let me pose a question. A very serious one. What is the point of the men's rights movement, to you? Is it just centered on men? Does it only focus on male problems, (regardless of sex/gender identity issues)? Because, if so, doesn't that seem like it will go wrong the same way that feminism did?

It seems to me that the ultimate goal of any civil rights movement, be it feminism, the racial rights movement, the sexuality rights movement, or this one, the men's rights movement, should be Egalitarian and Humanistic equality. Many feminists even believe that feminism is too female-centric:

Feminism is mainly focused on women's issues, but because feminism seeks gender equality, some feminists argue that men's liberation is therefore a necessary part of feminism, and that men are also harmed by sexism and gender roles.

I think confusing these ideas and not recognizing the ultimate goal (regardless of short-term goals) can be very dangerous for your movement. Our movement, I suppose, since I despise both misogyny and misandry. However, I cannot call myself part of this movement; not completely, anyway. Too often I've seen reactions to others that are as extreme as the actions that are being reacted to. Extreme opposites are not mutually exclusive as right and wrong, which seems to be part of the problem. If you perceive one action as wrong, then the extreme opposite of that action is generally also wrong. But what I'm seeing is extremist reactions and, following, defense of said extremist reactions with radical views that only take the bits and pieces of the movement's mission that they like and leaving the rest out. That's the pattern it tends to follow, in other movements such as:

*Radical Feminism

*Radical religious movements, i.e. extremist Muslims or the Crusades

and so on.

Let's look at one of the most famous civil rights movement. The African-American Civil Rights Movement (1955–1968)). In this movement, did they do peaceful protests and march on congress to make African-Americans better than Caucasian-Americans? No, they marched and protested to obtain a sense of egalitarian equality. Everyone is equal regardless of race. They didn't go to the extreme opposite, they looked for a moderate middle ground.

Now, I am not saying that everyone feels this way, but I've heard it said and seen it mentioned, here, that any press is good press. Any press does bring you attention, surely. Perhaps attention is good. But I'm slowly becoming disturbed with some of the things that are being presented as part of the men's rights movement and they are making me uncomfortable. I think it's time for a serious reevaluation. If that leads to the same conclusions, fine. But I think it's time to think, if nothing else.

I know some may disagree with me. That's fine. It's unavoidable. However, I ask that whether you disagree or agree, please do so in a respectful* manner.

So, here we go. What do you think, r/mensrights?

tl;dr: Read the damn post. It's not too long.

edit: So, there have been some good responses which I'm thankful for and have been food for thought. However, there have been some very angry and judgmental responses. I suppose I expected as much from the internet, but it would've been nice to see more of another kind. It bothers me that anyone that has a differing opinion but is willing and wanting to discuss it is largely labeled as a feminist and unable to be spoken to with reason. Because I have a differing view, I am treated badly and many are 'giving up' on the discussion already simply because they have drawn several conclusions that I believe aren't true.

In the past, I may have labeled myself as a feminist, because I believed it stood for something. Perhaps that something was not what I thought it was. Perhaps it was. Maybe it is now, and maybe it isn't. The point is that I was willing to talk about it, discuss it, and perhaps draw new conclusions from new information.

But let me tell you something. Treating people like the way many of you have not only in this thread but in others is a good way to drive people away from your movement, and to cloud their view of your point. If someone is willing to discuss it, even if you have had that discussion a thousand times there's no reason not to have it again if someone is willing. If you're tired of having the discussion then you're tired of fighting the fight and you don't belong here. You don't belong anywhere. This isn't something you can just expect other people to do. So you continue to talk about it, you continue to support, educated, make aware, and fight the fight, even if it seems you're getting no where. I know this, being a former president and still active member in a medium sized LGBTQQIAA organization in a very rural, socially conservative area, as well as being involved with student government at this university. You don't give up, or you've lost, and they've won.

So you want men to have equal rights? Then stop being such fucking assholes and learn to talk to people. For the ones that did talk calmly and present information, I thank you, and I have much to think about for the future. For those of you that didn't, grow the fuck up.

With that, I bid you adieu. If anyone would like to have an intelligible discussion with me about this (as I would like to) past this point, please feel free to message me. I am rather interested in this.
