Contempt charge coming…

So paid alimony 13 years so far on a lifetime sentence (thanks FL). Divorced 2009 … 17 year marriage so Judge gave me lifetime, aka permanent alimony as income was 2x the Ex’s back then

Anyway recently moved to Georgia and changed jobs — owe for 3 months while between jobs, and she’s got her attorney lined up for usual contempt charge … now question is will Georgia extradite ?

I’m in no position to offer settlement, new family, lower earnings now at age 55 …

I did get alimony reduction to $1500/month last year due to court-ordered mediation…was $3k+/month for 12 years — but I used to make 40% more salary …

So really just done with the paying, thinking will risk the jail time - I’m sure will be a judgment filed after sometime … last job change rode it out six months till court and mediation order (yeah I had to pay for the $300/hr mediator over 5 hours!)

Really don’t want to pay and have no house no retirement no assets — chapter 13 flipped to a chapter 7 last year so starting over at zero …

Had Hoped Florida SB1796, while not retro, would have at least turned the tables a bit by showing judges the way forward ie alimony capped at 50% of marriage term (ie I’d be done paying in that scenario). DeSantis vetoed even tho measure cleared republican FL house and senate … very discouraged

Ex has live in bf but can’t prove he contributes to her household finances - he works odd jobs of course … fear of that call out (and potential cohabitation ruling) got the reduction last year … she will never remarry, spiteful and wants me to pay till the grave …

Word of advice — do NOT divorce in FLA! It is bad if you make more than Spouse and if married more than 12 years it’s judgment call for judge no hard rules (SB1796 would have fixed that dang it)

Have been thru four attorneys- done with the $3k retainers too… it’s a cruel game they playing in FL Family Law ville…

Sorry long.
