The company where I work is a small one, but we're growing. As a consequence HR has been working on an employee handbook for the last year or so. The handbook isn't out yet, but I was informed by the HR representative that women will be given 3x more time off on maternity leave than men.

I know that businesses are not required to give maternity leave in the US, but among those that do, are they allowed to discriminate based on gender? I'm sure the answer is yes, but I figured I'd check. Googling only found me articles about pregnancy discrimination, so I thought /r/MensRights would know.
