I was arguing with another MRA the other day when the concept of NAFALT came up. Understand, I joined this movement because I see that the progress of civil rights has been lost on the male gender. While other groups began to be treated differently, as more human, men stayed in the same role, defined primarily by the sexist treatment of the past. This is a rational observation, one not made lightly. I try to be as rational a person as I can. So, let me give some examples.

I play video games. When I worked for EA Games, we had a number of testers who would show up in sandals with stinky feet, body odor, and who were mentally dulled and quite vocally rude to people. I had to explain to people who weren't gamers that not all of us are like that.

I deliver pizza. A few months ago I read a post about a pizza delivery driver who called the cops on a customer for having pot in their house. Once again, I had to reiterate that not all pizza drivers are like this.

When I was taking part in Occupy protests, men with cameras were approaching all the more hippie-looking people and asking them pointed political questions, to which many didn't have answers. After he explained that OWS was stupid for wanting student loan forgiveness, I had to reply with not all of us want student loan forgiveness.

I'm an ardent progressive. So, living in the South, I often get people who tell me that I want to take their guns. I'm actually against all forms of gun restriction, so I have to tell them, not all progressives are like that.

In every movement of which I've been a part, including this one, there have been people who I didn't want to claim, people in the movement who I disavowed, and people spouting shit that made me question whether I wanted to continue fighting for that movement. But in the end, no one person, or group of people, can blemish an idea.

I'm a strong supporter of the movement, but I just do not see the opposition to this. There are assholes in every movement, why would feminism be different? Why do we expect the impossible from them, a wholly unified and non-dissenting front, when not only can we not manage that ourselves, no other progressive movement in history has done so.
