I don't know much about western stoicism, however I follow the mongol philosophy, trust no one,protect yourself,and keep your emotions and secrets between you and the gods. For other men/women to know your emotions is to have them know your weaknesses

Marcus Aurelius' Meditations is probably the most basic text.

Some older versions of Buddhism also have strong Stoic undertones.

The enchiridion by epictetus is a really short read but good of course along with meditations, and for a more historical reading on stoicism 'A Guide To The Good Life', William B. Irvine

I believe in feeling your emotions deeply, while maintaining dominion over your emotions. This does not mean perfectly “controlling” how you feel, but rather it focuses on developing a true awareness of your emotions AND knowing the actions that allow you to maintain mental wellness.

“The Way of the Superior Male” is an exceptional text. Highly recommend. I also enjoy “The Rationale Male,” and the STFU idea within the text is a solid stoic tendency to maintain.

Bravery in the face of risk is a typically male quality in our society. Males are praised for their stoic approach, superheroes and many of our favorite movie stars are the epitome of stocism. However you can be too brave in the face of danger too. Refusing to see a doctor or get mental health help is stoic but stoic to the point that it is bad. It’s a traditionally male quality but seen in levels that make it toxic. Not sure if there’s a word for it or not.

Maybe I haven’t studied Stoicism with a capital S, but for me, being stoic is about blocking out everybody’s fucking bullshit and living life on my own terms.

“Oh, I’m an asshole because I won’t let people (women) use and abuse me and treat me like a doormat? Okay, great! Fuck off, because I don’t need anybody’s bullshit.” Then I get labeled as the bad guy, and it doesn’t bother me because I’m immune to the bullshit and too busy focusing on my individual hobbies to care.
