There's just so much wrong with this story it's hard to know where to start.

This disabled man was arrested on nothing more than the word of a woman. Then he was intimidated, terrified and coerced into making a false confession to a terrible crime against an innocent child.

And at no point in this process to anyone consider that they might be doing something profoundly evil and wrong. Not only that, they are not considering it even now.

In a sane world even if this could happen it would surely trigger an immediate investigation of how the machinery of justice came to be activated on nothing more than an accusation and how those operating it came to feel okay about grinding an innocent man into nothing with it.

Surely.

Please God, surely.

The 41-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had maintained his innocence until the trial but pleaded guilty on the day because he said he was "completely terrified" of going to prison. He said he was "overcome by panic" and in a state of near nervous collapse at the thought of going to prison, and was terrified that he would be preyed upon by other prisoners.

He said a member of his family convinced him to plead guilty to at least one of the allegations in the hope that he would get a suspended sentence.

All this from a word-of-mouth accusation. No other evidence needed. Women have this power.

Conor Devally SC, prosecuting, said the man's older sister approached gardaí in April this year and admitted she made her young daughter write to the gardai and make allegations about her brother.

She said this was done because she suffered from depression and anorexia and wanted her brother out of the house.

"I told her a lot of stuff to say, to blame him and what kind of things he did. It took a lot of time to get her to understand, she didn't want to do it.”

The woman admitted she had been cruel to make her daughter say this.

Women never lie about rape so they must never be questioned. Whey they do it's because they're depressed or frightened and so must never be questioned.

And hey, if that means a few mentally handicapped men are tormented by a police state for no reason is that such a big deal? Men are tough and don't really notice the oppression.

Sorry this is slightly off topic, but as an Irish person in an (I assume) subreddit which doesn't have a large Irish population, rape laws in Ireland are an absolute disgrace. Did you know that if two underaged teenagers have sex, Irish law grants the girl automatic immunity from criminal liability for statutory rape? So the law says, in a more long winded manner, that if two teenagers have sex, the girl is an angelic innocent victim while the boy is a monstrous predator who should be marked for life as such.

I don't want to live on this planet anymore...

Adult male, blanked out on alcohol much of the time, sharing house with sister who persuades her own daughter to file a false rape accusation against him. This is a batshit crazy family situation that's probably been passed down from previous generations and will be passed down to future generations.

But no matter how deprived the lady is, no matter how poor her formal education may have been, she's still learned the important social messages of female victimhood and diminished legal responsibility for females.

I'd also say I regard this not only as cruelty to her brother but also as child cruelty to her daughter - I can't imagine how that little girl is going to grow up without a horribly warped sense of how to relate to guys after being brainwashed like this. She will quite possibly, through absolutely no fault of her own, grow up to be a self entitled feminazi. She's been taught from a very young age that if a guy pisses her off, accusing him of sex crimes is the best way to deal with him. Literally can't describe how much this saddens me. That woman should rot in jail and be prevented from wrecking her daughters outlook any further :(
