There was some other post I remember seeing in the last week that was critical of the movie, not for any of it's actual content or scenes, but because of all the rest of Barbie related criticism.

In the sense that, Barbie is a perfect/idealized woman, has a perfect body, has any job/career she wants, owns several houses. Barbie used to be criticized as "part of the problem" just for how perfect she was, despite being a fantasy, right alongside patriarchy and everything else.

But now we have a movie where it's basically ignoring the past several decades of being told "Barbie is just a corporate tool for greed and patriarchy!" - and now having it flipped to "Barbie is just as important for women and feminism as ever!" - make up your minds, you can't have both.

I think just acknowledging it as misandry should be the first step. There’s people genuinely believing the movie did not disparage men in the least.

Some of the Anti-SJWs and Normies are doing that, since the movie made Ken sympathetic (I mean seriously most of Barbie, and by extension Barbie Land and Movie! Mattel,'s problems were from not treating Ken as an equal. Plus, the director and producers made a mistake of casting a hot dude as Ken).

(The only way that I can tell who is crazy and who is not is when people go see both movies, there's no way a feminist will go to see Oppenheimer. It's mainly us and Normies that do double duty).

I am a politically conservative woman and I saw it yesterday with my eight year old daughter and my 12 year old son. It was SO over the top with the patriarchy stuff. It was insane. I am highly educated and worked in New York City for a long time in finance in an all male group. I also happen to be pretty my whole life. So I feel like I’m in a good position to comment on this movie. There were a couple of moments that really hit home and were accurate but most of it was a complete exaggeration.

The other thing I would say about it is that there is the scene where the women lose their “awareness” and are no longer in positions of power. And it shows them during that scene as cheerleaders and waitresses and things like that. And I thought it was really denigrating to women who choose to do those things with their life. I was a cheerleader, and I loved it, and I never felt like I was somehow less because of it.

The good news is the message was all over the place and my eight year old daughter tuned out of the political stuff. She didn’t really take anything away from it except the fact that Barbie and Ken don’t have any genitals. That was the most memorable thing to her from the entire movie. 🤣

The depiction of the bad guys is so good, you end up siding with them, and they become the real heroes.

Honestly, I've got a downvote-worthy take:

This movie was so woke, it went back to sleep.

I thought it was either trying way too hard to be pro-feminist and ended up undermining its own point

Or

It was a stealth parody. (Michael Knowles reviewed it on YouTube, and he landed on this one.)

The way Barbie treated Ken was toxic - and, in a shocking twist, she got called out on it and had to learn different.

The way patriarchy vs matriarchy was portrayed was way over the top and cartoonish, to the point of being unbelievable. The way the Barbies only needed to hear about patriarchy and they immediately wanted to join it; the way they said they were happier under patriarchy.

The male obsession with horses (which has always been a traditionally female obsession!)
