The top comments are "companies don't care they just want to make money", basically making the point that the plus-size female models aren't there to make women feel good, but to cynically appeal to the current zeitgeist and appear woke.

That is, of course, true. But looking at this screenshot is still jarring and says a few things:

Body positivity is still seen as mostly a female thing only. It's almost like the male models are from an earlier era than the female ones. There have been a few body-positive campaigns involving men, but not many.
Awareness of body dissatisfaction among men is still lagging far behind that of women. The issue only recently stopped being seen as a women's issue entirely.
Myer is a mid-to-upscale department store with a largely female shopper base. Their target buyer for the men's underwear is probably mostly women. I've noticed ads targeted for men often have more realistic, cheerful and relatable male models, or focus more on the garment itself.

As I've said, it is now men not women who are held to unrealistic body standards.

Women can be valued as they are.

Men are expected to be tall white guys with unrealistic gym bodies

Hot take I know, but I'm glad it's this way.

Body positivity is a farce. Nobody, and I mean nobody truly believes in it fully. Fat HAES women crave underwear model type guys, and the guys who say that the big girls need love jack off to women with thin waists and perky asses. Only fat fetishists really like big people, and that's not positivity.

I'm glad that the male body positivity movement isn't taking off because I don't want to see my brothers fall victim to the crabs in a bucket mentality. Instead, I want fat men to know that they can lose weight, they can better themselves physically, and they will be happier for it. If you simply refuse, that's on you.

I only support body positivity when it's something we can't change/control/choose like hair type, skin colour, facial looks in general, but being fat is a no no

From a woman's point of view, I don't want to see people like me. I've had children and I'm squishy in the tummy area. I also don't want to see these super skinny models either. The average size of a woman is a size 8 which is healthy, quite a while ago since so many people are just fat now, the average size of most of the models (not these) are I think a 2 iirc? I don't mind seeing make models looking like that but tttt I think they should look more realistic. Not fat, but not all do body shots off of. The only think the body positivity movement has really don't is make it acceptable for people to be fat and not care (for the most part)
