It's difficult for any MRA activism to make headway when there are feminist organizations which vastly more power, money and political influence lobbying directly against us. The most recent example is the National Organization for Women lobbying against groups trying to get fathers fairer treatment after divorces. They are also active in trying to increase additional forms of so called positive discrimination in STEM fields.

Because of this I think that the best thing the MRM can do right now is spread awareness of feminism's true nature and fight against it, and challenge their lies whenever possible. We won't make any progress until we break the control feminism has over the public discourse.

As a recent EE graduate I have to admit that I actually support initiatives to get women into engineering. All of the female students who managed to get through their first year (turnover rate is crazy), were very dedicated and honestly faced challenges that many of the guys did not have to worry about. In my experience, female engineers are some of best people I have ever come across. The world would be such a better place with more of them! Many employers want more women in engineering because they simply don't have very many. Almost all the guys I knew would have killed to have more female students in their classes, for better or worse. I would have definitely felt uncomfortable being a woman in those classes, there were countless times guys would make public comments about their asses or sexualize them in other ways (who wouldn't want a girlfriend they could actually relate to). The professors would also pick on the girls more to answer questions just because they stood out. These things wouldn't be a problem if the average female was expected to take on the responsibilities that engineering entails.

I know a lot of this wont be popular on this subreddit, but it's similar to the challenges a guy would face becoming a nurse. On one hand, there should be more initiatives for getting men into other fields of study, but to be fair, there is just more money in science and engineering. If you guys want the world to think more rationally about men's rights, then we need to entice bright young women to take on these types of responsibilities.

If you have the time, you can try to start a men's group in your campus.

Putting up posters where people can see them can help spread awareness. AVFM, for example, will send you stickers for free.

A voice for men is where the most effective activism is taking place, IMO. They may well get a corrupt prosecutor disbarred before much longer. They are awe inspiring.

Another little thing you can do is when there is good news here, for example a politician speaking up for men's issues or something the like: Find his or her email address and write a few lines to show support.

"We" don't do anything. This sub isn't an activist group, it's an anonymous bulletin board for thousands of strangers to post links. The frequenters of this sub are sometimes called MRA's, which isn't the most descriptive name since very few of them are activists.

Political activism isn't for everybody. We have an indirect, representative democracy. Not being an activist is ok as long as you're well-informed about the issues. Of 1000 people in a town aware of an issue, maybe 300 of them know there's a meeting about the issue in the town hall on Tuesday night, maybe only 30 of them leave their warm homes to sit on hard chairs at that meeting, and maybe only one of them stands up to speak. But the fact that there are 1000 aware voters in the background makes it a lot more likely that the speaker will be listened to.

And that's for politically acceptable causes where the only price you pay is to sit through a lot of boring meetings. If standing up at that meeting put you at risk of being smeared in the town paper as a bigot, then far fewer people will be ready to make that choice in their lives. There's a big gap between being an anonymous reader of this sub and identifying yourself as an activist, Lonely dissent doesn't feel like going to school dressed in black. It feels like going to school wearing a clown suit. Maybe you have what it takes to literally be a men's rights activist, in which case you won't listen to moral cowards like me; but maybe you don't want to spend the best four years of your life wearing a clown suit, especially not one with a Hitler mustache.

The more realistic stepping stones are to do with conversations. You'll have many, many conversations in college - in class, in between classes, deep meaningful ones at two o'clock in the morning. There are a lot of opportunities for sharing stories and making yourself and other people more aware. You don't have to be the guy who drops a big rock into the pond and splashes everybody, you can start by throwing a pebble in and observing how the ripples interact.

I argue from a strongly rational* front. It rarely helps keep undefensive but it keeps most audiences neutral or on my side. Even when they actually disagree with me.

* Relative to most. I get irrational when I get angry and don't carry around my sources.

It is important to engage in the who has it worse debate, to neutralize the idea that women had it worse. As it stands, most people believe women had it worse. This is a vital front on which to argue.
