So many great points in such a short video.

A very low proportion of very wealthy men doesn’t mean society is male dominated. Of course the woman doesn’t mention that women actually spend more money than men do, due to men subsidizing women. Why do feminists complain about women working and earning less, when the end up with more money to spend?

I'll prolly get downvoted like fuck for this, but fuck it. I hate Jordan Peterson. He misses the point she's trying to make entirely and strawmans the fuck out of her. The man's a genius in the psych sphere but tries to anti-Noam-Chomsky himself into being some great political mind and fails miserably.

He knows what she means. She's not saying Men don't have problems, at least not in the context of this very small information she's able to present in this video. She's saying that men D O tend to get the better end of the societal shaft, and I'm personally inclined to agree. Not that that doesn't come with its own price, but that we do tend to get the benefits more.

As for everything else he mentioned, yeah... that's the fun of it. We've made this mess for ourselves over the past centuries since the Renaissance. We've put our own expectations, mores, and norms on ourselves and now we're whinging and bitching about those things we put on ourselves when women try to point out that we've been in control in general.

I am certainly not missing them - in fact, they all seem pretty obvious to me (in contrast to his Jungian mysticism and occasional bouts of social conservatism where his lucidity is harder to find).

The real question is: why in the world is anyone missing them, let alone find them controversial? They do not even contradict, only add nuance to the strawman version of, feminists precepts.

Even more fascinating is how this guy became such a hero and anti-hero in the first place. He is clearly uncomfortable in the limelight, speaks logically but monotonously and starkingly devoid of charm, and has never behaved discourteously - nor has any of the 100s of journalists digging around come up with anything even remotely bigoted he once said.

Even more striking is that the controversy is around issues going from concentric circles around the issue of mandating pronouns by force of law against which he took a principled liberal stance. That was then associated with his ventures into pop psychology, to which supposedly basement dwelling incels who manage to be pitiful and privileged at the same time, were drawn - though I could never figure out how JPs advice could be harmful to them, or anyone for that matter - it is all common sense about taking responsibility and knowing what you want.

But the loopy side of JP was left pretty much unscathed. Not only is he one of few adherents to Jungian mysticism, in many ways further out there than Freud: he also touts the Bible as a source of moral authority through allegory (without explaining, of course, why it should be so moral to offer your wife and daughters into sexual slavery to honor a guest, to take but one, comparatively mild instance from the Tora). His analyis of Theory and postmodern philosphy is particularly rickety - surely, he would see that the likes of Marcuso and Foucault would be vehemently opposed to the recent trends leading to, say, cancel culture and its ilk. In fact Foucault would see the use of the threat of an accusation of racism as exactly the kind of hidden, illegitimate us of power of definition that makes up most power actually exerted. In his essay, replace the power to decide who is mentally ill with the power to decide who is a bigot throughout, and his number one essay was pretty much about cancel culture.

So his wholesale dismissal is not only wrong, but a start and inexplicable contrast to the logic, precision, and nuance he brings to the fore in other areas.

Of course, that, too makes him fascinating.
