There was a study done by an economist some time ago on data from millions of uber rides. Male drivers (on average) drive a little bit faster, tend to fit an extra job in, work more dangerous/uncomfortable/profitible shifts, and do slightly longer hours, among other things.

They say after controlling for differences, there’s a 1% gap, but the fact is, they can’t really know, measure and control for all factors to that extreme a detail. When we compensate for potential unknowns, the error, unknown factors, etc. this 1% could be off a bit either way. They are showing men and women earn essentially the same for equal work.

The uncontrolled gender pay gap is an indication of what types of jobs — and the associated earnings — are occupied by women overall versus men overall. This in turn is an indicator of how wealth and power is gendered and the value that women have compared to men within our society.

While they are correct that the pay gap is an indication of what jobs women choose to do, it's a terrible measure of wealth and power. Setting aside that the very wealthy don't get a wage, the power of money is tied to who chooses to spend it. If you can spend other people's money that is more power than your wage would imply.

Except when you scroll down to their Methodology section they don't even fucking explain HOW they 'controlled' for these factors..

How do you go about controlling for the fact that Men often work more hours or overtime than women?
How do you go about controlling for the fact that the majority of male dominated industries / jobs also have an extremely high death rate for men and thus most likely pay higher than other jobs?
How do you control for the fact that women and men make different choices? e.g Men often choose work over a work / life balance (Or they don't really have a choice because it's either work long grueling hours or their family starves / has no home) vs Women who CHOOSE to want / have a more flexible work / life balance?

Seriously.. how hard is it for these people to identify the different factors and accurately explain exactly how they went about controlling for them and thus arrived to their conclusions?
The idea here is, they should be able to supply the same data they used as well as their methodologies and hand it over to other people who can then use the same data and methodologies and hopefully arrive at the same conclusion.

With out this its nothing but smoke and mirrors and expecting people to take you at your word.
Just because you use the phrase "Even when all compensable factors are controlled for" that doesn't mean shit unless you can back it up with proof showing exactly how they have been controlled for.

This shit here is the reason why I refuse to accept the very notion of the "Pay Gap" as they have not satisfied the burden of evidence in regards to their claim.
Is anyone else as pissed off with this as I am or is it just me?

The gap between what women and men are paid persists year over year, indicating that the reasons for the gender pay gap are systemic and a reflection of how society values the work of women less than men.

I switched off as soon as I hit this sentence. This report is clearly not being set out in a neutral, fact-based way and is trying to reinforce the message that the pay gap is still a real thing. Even calling it a pay gap is incorrect - it is an EARNINGS gap which is something completely different. Idiots.

I say men just all agree to take a 1 percent pay cut so it will be completely even.
