Help me understand this, as a family man my main goal has always been to create a comfortable worry free lifestyle for my family. Of course there are some days or stretches of days where that isn’t always the case but nonetheless it’s what we strive to do. I’m sure other fathers/husbands will agree with me that although there are days we struggle - we absolutely don’t want to ask for help. Whether that be because we see it as failure or societal pressures due to gender stereotypes etc etc- we lace up everyday and work towards that goal without trying to be a burden to anyone else. Now- social media is constantly saying “ it’s okay to not be okay” or “ Men need help too” so my questions is does that only apply to mental health? The one time a year- significantly less for some- we need help , when we are sick, we are ostracized for having “man flu”. If it really wasn’t that bad, just a cold, don’t you think we’d suck it up and get through it like we do every other day? And then you wonder why men don’t ask for help. I’ll never pretend to have the pain tolerance that the women in my family have-but what message do you suppose is being conveyed when day in and day out we are working our tails out to create a comfortable environment for those we care for but the second we get sick and need just a little extra care. We are resented. And it’s not that you just come out and say it, I would actually prefer that. Instead you tell us to suck it up as if you’re joking- but you’re not. You compare that cold you had last week to what we are feeling - again don’t you think we’d just suck it up like we do everything other day? What makes you say ask for help one day and suck it up the next?
