I found out that my wife of 4 years has been having a secret savings account. I just went through financial documents in our house because something was wrong, and I figured it out.
It opened up 4 years ago, and she’s been auto depositing 10% of her income every year. She’s saying it’s a completely healthy thing to do especially for women. She says that she wants to be secured if something happened to me or if I started abusing her.
I find that extremely illogical and that it’s pretty bad that she’s been lying this whole time. She’s been hiding $25k dollars from me. I put my money into our joint account, since we both agreed to merge our finances. She’s now saying that I can also put 10% of my income every year into my own account.
I then threatened to take 40% of my income(4 years times 10%) and put it into a separate account just for me. She’s now saying that’s financial abuse and called me an asshole if I did that. I honestly don’t see what she’s thinking. She put 40% of her income and it’s been accruing interest.
She’s now staying at a friends house. Most of my friends think I’m in the right, but I don’t know at this point. They’re my friends, they’re more likely to agree with me regardless. I think I need to see another POV.
So, AITA?
Edit: Yeah, we’re probably getting a divorce.
Edit 2: She texted me with some uncomfortable news. She thinks our relationship can’t work because she feels I’m “abusive”. I’m not going to update anymore.

So apparently the husband's the asshole even though the wife has been lying to him for 4 years. Wow
[–]VileInsidias 11 points12 points13 points (1 child) | Copy Link
One comment I read said that the man was the asshole because he wanted to save 40% of his income, and the woman wasn’t one because she DID save 40% of hers. Other comments were saying things like ‘start with 15-25% and raise it gradually’ fuck off that’s just ridiculous.

What a bunch of cucks. If my wife did this I would divorce her within 24 hours. Thankfully, shes not a stupid SJW cuck. She knows women's problems and men's, and she doesn't need to parade around her own insecurities by attacking men every chance she gets.

This is the main double standard: She accused him of financially abusing her when he threatened to do...exactly what she's been doing secretly for 4 years.
And so few of the commentators noticed it.

Yes exactly, how many times do we see women abusing marriage law and worse using their children as a weapon? I don't know the guy's situation but if he hasn't had kids he should consider himself extremely lucky because him simply making the threat of taking money from her account that she hid from him is going to be used against him as a claim of abuse.
If it were me the second I found out about that account I would have simply broken off contact with her entirely so she couldn't use anything against me in court and file for divorce. This is why being educated on what to do in these situations regardless of gender is so important because not to dunk on the guy too much since he's in a stressful situation he made things worse for himself reacting the way he did.
There was a recent court case which I'll cite between Sargon of Akkad and this youtuber called Akilah Obviously and it really hit me in the face when it came to the advise he was following and Count Dankula chimed in on that too. If you even get a whiff of any kind of chance of court proceedings, keep your mouth shut and don't even post about it on social media.
It goes back to when you're read your rights "You have the right to remain silent, anything can you say can be given in evidence". Akilah fucked up big time and she was mouthing off on twitter constantly and the last thing you do when you're in court is start talking shit about the people you're prosecuting on social media. This is why so many false accusers and the like oust themselves because instead of keeping their mouths shut, going to the police like normal people and getting lawyers they screw themselves over.
Akilah did this and the judge even specifically cited her twitter posts because it indicated that she was trying to go after Sargon with malicious intent and to try and ruin his life. This is exactly what could potentially happen with this guy.
By the way regarding the sub, obviously a bunch of white knights immediately trying to paint the guy as a potential abuser but it's interesting how there's people calling them out. I really do wonder if reddit is starting to get red pilled on this stuff especially with what is happening to Johnny Depp.

And yet someone still commented thus:
"It would be no AH, but his threat to remove 40% makes it YTA.
If he wants to start an equitable account now, fine. Seriously denting the finances in retaliation IS financial abuse.
She has no reason to feel guilty. His response PROVES her concerns valid. The first hint that he's not getting his way, and he wants to have a tantrum."

I completely agree with you it's a load of bullshit, but this is why you keep your mouth shut if it goes to court proceedings. With any luck he'll get a good lawyer that will tell him this when he enters the divorce after hearing what he said to her and then she'll be the one who looks awful if she runs her mouth constantly about him being abusive.
I'm just as guilty as anyone of getting into the heat of the moment sometimes but it's important to point this out and let the rational part of you brain do it's thing instead of get yourself into trouble. I think even though they're scumbags and obviously just white knighting for the woman their responses give plenty of insight into how people who think this way about men will view people like the guy in the OP. Let's be real, we're held to a completely different standard to women they can run their mouths about us and say all kinds of nasty shit all they like but if we even respond with "Fuck off and die bitch" then they'll immediately use it against us.
This is why it's standard practice now for men to record literally everything and make sure to have receipts on hand for even the most unlikely scenarios. Feminists act like it's some kind of travesty and just men being manipulative when in reality we have to do this sort of thing for the sake of self-preservation.

they probably did notice, they just don't care

Even by that logic, why would it be "especially for women"? If a man is being abused by his wife and he wants a divorce, she could end up screwing him over by taking half his money and / or alimony. And if there are kids, they'll be stuck with the abusive woman and the husband will be stuck paying child support
Abused men have so fewer resources than women; a separate savings account is not "healthy...especially for women"
Another "what's yours is mine; what's mine is mine" self-entitled bitch. I hope he beats the odds and things go well for him during the divorce

I'm reading this stunned.
It's amazing how it's HER money.
But whenever there is a high profile divorce like Jeff Bezos, it's their money.
[–]tibbolt 7 points8 points9 points (0 children) | Copy Link
that's not true, high profile or not, if the breadwinner was a man its "their money". if the breadwinner was a woman, it's was her money all along. Remember Adelle's divorce? feminists got all upset to see equality in action

Not amazing at all. Women get emotional about money. Not possible to use logic.
[–]user_miki 8 points9 points10 points (1 child) | Copy Link
The reaction from so many women there made me realize that there are many wives that are hiding money from their husbands. There are some fierce defenders of the wife there ,it seems that steeling money is very common.
The issue there is not the money. It is a trust issue.A major breach of trust. No amount of money I could take out, would make me trust that woman again.
What else was she hiding?Living a life looking back over your shoulder is not a life at all.

[–]proexsniping 2 points3 points4 points (1 child) | Copy Link
Some of the comments are saying its okay as long as its a secret. Cmon. Saying that would justify cheating. Don't lie to your partner even if it's emergency money.
[–]FoghornLeghorn99[S] 2 points3 points4 points (0 children) | Copy Link
One person kept telling me it's a secret not a lie, it devolved into her calling me an abuser, naturally.
[–]VileInsidias 2 points3 points4 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Some of the comments on there are absolutely infuriating.
[–]AnalGenocideComeBack 1 point2 points3 points (0 children) | Copy Link
I still have hope, a lot of comment understand his anger and say NTAH

It opened up 4 years ago, and she’s been auto depositing 10% of her income every year.
That is an intent to divorce... especially as she had kept it secret, and she also made the claim that its in case you abuse her( someone has been whispering in her ear).
How do I know?
Because my ex did this to me and put large sums of money into an account claiming it was for our child, putting her name on it and that of our child , but deliberately leaving my name off the account.I had no say in the finances
whilst at the same time claiming on a regular basis we are broke and I have to get more money.
as my lawyer pointed out .. it is intent to divorce and its abusive.
there was a new york attorney who specialises in finding hidden sources of money in divorcing couples( unfortunately he only works for women with rich husbands).
he pointed out 5 ways he looks for this and having secret bank accounts( especially with the name of children on them) is intent.
Supposed debts is another ( eg owe family or friends a debt which is unsubstantiated or has not legal agreement)
I suspect she will move that money again or severely reduce it to hide it elsewhere( maybe in her friends name)
[–]Hannubal 1 point2 points3 points (0 children) | Copy Link
How is it not sexism for her to assume that he might end up abusing her, just because he's a man? Also, she has to acknowledge how brutally biased divorce-courts are in favor of women. I don't see the justification for hiding what's essentially their money from him.

I hope this comment here will reach to the OP in AITA, who appears to be suspended as of now ? :D WTF ?
Anyway, to the point:
WTF is this trend of people creating joint accounts because "marriage, love, trust, respect" ? :D
Normally you create a joint account, only to use it to dispose some percentage of your net income, so you can cover the bills, buy groceries, fix the car or washing machine etc.. The rest is yours - end of story !

I'm baffled that people are stupid enough to forget that a prenup is a thing.
[–]FoghornLeghorn99[S] 2 points3 points4 points (0 children) | Copy Link
Prenups are bad because that's typically a man protecting his assets.

If that's all it took for her to cry divorce then you are dodging a bullet my friend. She is not mentally mature enough for a healthy relationship
