Did you express that you were no longer consenting to sex? I am sorry you feel bad about what happened, but raising a rape allegation doesn't seem appropriate on these facts at all. Unless you stated that you wished to stop having sex and she forced you to continue, this wasn't rape.
[–]Missing_Links 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
What this guy said. Rape happens when one person unambiguously announces that they do not want sex and some other person/people attempt to and succeed in having sex with that non-consenting person.
She doesn't sound like she was being a good partner, she should have been a bit better at reading your mood, but you failed to explicitly tell her that you didn't want sex, during sex, after you initially agreed, even if you agreed relentingly.
This is bad communication, before, during, and after sex. It isn't rape.

It doesn't take a mind reader to know someone who said no and is obviously not into it, is not into it.
She was well aware he didn't want to have sex, unless she has some sort of learning difficulty.

[–]ee4m[🍰] -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link
He said no 5 times, gave in reluctantly, then during he non verbally communicated it was bad, she covered up that communication with her hand and continued.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
non verbally communicated did not communicate
Fixed that for you.
[–]ee4m[🍰] -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Most communication is non verbal.
By your definition, putting a knife to someones throat and telling then not to make sound, and raping them is not rape because they didn't verbalize no.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link
Uhhh... huh. OK suddenly there's a knife involved. Yeah, I can see how that's totally the same as feeling (but not saying) "I'm not in the mood, but I'll do it for her because she wants sex".
We're not feminists. When you learn how not to be one, then come back to this subreddit.
[–]ee4m[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
Ok, leave out the knife, someone too afraid to speak, or frozen and someone fucking them who knows they dont want it, you say thats not rape.
"I'm not in the mood, but I'll do it for her because she wants sex".
Thats not what he described .
[–]skepticalbipartisan 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
"frozen and someone fucking them who knows they dont want it"
That's not what he described either. And you talk about fucking bias?
[+][deleted] 10 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link
[–]ee4m[🍰] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Its like they are fully conforming to the biases feminists call "rape culture".
[–]skepticalbipartisan 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Perhaps you should accept your bias in only hearing one side of the story. It's great that you so easily empathize with OP but do not presume that his vivid words paint the picture of how he manifested his feelings accurately.
You make it sound like you were there and you saw his body language. There is one last question I have for you:
Should she go to jail for this?
[–]ee4m[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
He told us he was looking at the wall, un into it and she covered his face.
[–]skepticalbipartisan -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Answer my question. Should she go to jail?
[–]ee4m[🍰] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
No.
This is a case of where teaching people not to rape, and about consent applies.
Because clearly the feminists are right about some of their rape culture stuff.
[–]skepticalbipartisan -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Then you clearly do not take rape as seriously as I do. Rapists belong in jail. Period.
You do rape victims great injustice comparing this to the feeling of not being given a fucking choice. I feel for the OP too but I know first hand how it feels to be taken. So excuse me when I say this but fuck you for implying that any form of rape is not a crime.
Let me ask you something.
Say his girlfriend made a post detailing this incident from her perspective. Here we find out that she is distraught because she realized after the fact (when her judgment wasn't clouded/sobered up) that he really wasn't into it.
Let's assume there's remorse of the fact she took advantage of their relationship to pressure him into it. I mean it'd be unreasonable not to assume this could be her reason for crying when he brought it up.
Now how would you support HER? Would you call her a rapist and be done with it?
[–]ee4m[🍰] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I wouldn't support her, I'd point out that what women apply to men, also applies to women.
I'd say just as feminists point out men can rape without realizing it, women can too ... probably more so.
[–]wazzup987 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link
yes he did he said 5 times he didn't want sex
[–]my_name_is_gato 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
But he submitted. She was shitty to keep pressuring him, but there was no threat of force. She was in the wrong, but it does not rise to the level of rape.
Edit: missing a word.
[–]wazzup987 -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
hadn't they been drinking?
[–]my_name_is_gato 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Drinking doesn't automatically mean unable to consent.
[–]wazzup987 -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
no but that combinedwith the pressuring he got does
[–]skepticalbipartisan -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link
Should have said it 6...
[–]nuesuh 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link
Well.. Personally, I would have just pushed her off and asserted myself. But, imagine how /r/TwoXchromosome womyn would react to you telling some broad that she should have said no a 6th time.
Once should have been enough.. In this case tho, just fucking push her off of you
[–]ee4m[🍰] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
You are subtly assigning blame as well.
[–]skepticalbipartisan 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link
If regret doesn't equal rape when they say it then it doesn't equal rape when we say it.
Being raped can certainly make you feel dirty and used. Feeling dirty and used does not necessarily mean you were raped.
This doesn't mean I don't have sympathy for the OP, I just take rape very seriously. I'd go as far to say they were violated but that's where I'd personally draw the line.
[–]wazzup987 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
ok are we not going to acknowledge pressuring some in to doing some thing they dont want to do?
[–]skepticalbipartisan 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Is calling something rape the only way to condemn it?
Am I being raped when my boss relentlessly begs me to come into work and I give in?
Is it rape simply because sex is involved?
[–]ee4m[🍰] -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
This is stupid, your working relationship between yourself and your boss is not covered by sexual consent laws, unless you are having sex.
There is a raft of legislation that pertains to the work place.
[–]skepticalbipartisan 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
This is stupid. Rape should NOT be ambiguous. The only reason to insist on this being rape is to attach a criminal aspect to it. Accusing your partner of being a fucking rapist does NOTHING to fix the problem.
For fuck sakes it doesn't have to be rape to be unacceptable behaviour!
[–]ee4m[🍰] -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The example isn't ambiguous .
He didn't want to have sex, she had sex with him anyway, knowing that.
[–]ee4m[🍰] -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link
The guy was forced to have sex.
If you can't see that you might want to look at some of your unconscious biases surrounding sexual consent.
[–]skepticalbipartisan 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
You have a loose definition of what it means to force someone to do something.
[–]ee4m[🍰] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Ok, I should have said the its clear the guy wasn't consenting to sex, and she had sex with him anyway .
[–]skepticalbipartisan 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
"I finally submit. I was reluctantly into it..."
[–]ee4m[🍰] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
After which she covers his face which is by then expressing the lack of consent, and continues anyway .

There are a lot of words to describe her actions, we don't need to jump to rape accusations to show our disdain for her actions.
I hope the two of you can work through this. Your focus should be on the communication breakdown that has occurred in your relationship. Boundaries have been broken and they need to be amended.
[–]AliRadicali 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
If the genders were reversed, this'd be considered rape, no doubt about it. The only thing preventing that assessment now is your own male ego telling you you were supposed to be in control all the time.
[–]nuesuh -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
I actually agree with his male ego. He should have asserted himself. Pushed her off, raised his voice.
[–]ee4m[🍰] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Stop blaming him, it will fuck with his head .
[–]skepticalbipartisan -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Which of these is a healthy dialogue:
Girlfriend, I am not comfortable with what happened last night. You should have listened to me when I said no and I should have stood my ground. You need to respect my boundaries in the future or this relationship cannot continue.
Or
You unequivocally raped me.
[–]ee4m[🍰] 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Straw man, they had a conversation ... the gf asked if he felt raped, he said yes .
And it doesn't change he fact she had sex with him, while knowing he didnt want it.
[–]AliRadicali 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The minute he admits to "FEELING RAPED" after the fact, she turns on the water works for some emotional manipulation. This is not a healthy relationship to begin with, but IMO the dude has a perfectly good case to make for emotional blackmailing/coercion.
[–]skepticalbipartisan 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
I think you're making a grand assumption based on the description of an emotionally charged drunk person. Theoretically you make a valid point. My biggest issue in all of this is with "feeling raped" and people adamant that this particular circumstance is in fact rape.
This could easily fall under sexual assault (coercion, unwanted physical advances) but its not rape. If you don't know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you are being rapeld, then it probably isn't rape. "Feeling like rape" in this case is just a layman's use of the word meaning sexually assaulted.
[–]AliRadicali 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ok, fair enough.
I think it's pretty telling that certain people just can't conceive of a woman having the upper hand in a relationship.
"He should have just asserted himself" Um yeah, he did, repeatedly. No means no, not "force yourself on me anyway and if I don't put up a fight that means it's OK".
Coercion and/or emotional manipulation can lead to rape too, it's not limited to physical domination.
[–]iainmf 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Right now you need to look after yourself. Your GF can sort her own shit out.
Be careful about who you reach out to for support. Not everyone will understand.
It's probably going to be tough for a while, but this is not insurmountable.
I wish I could do more to help.
[–]Black_caped_man 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
But finally I submit.
This is why it's not rape IMO. Was it really shitty, disrespectful, selfish, mean, etc on her part? Most definitely. Do you have every right to feel used, disrespected, mistreated, etc ? Absolutely.
I would suggest you take some time for yourself and stay away from her for a while. I also suggest you tell her why, that you felt disrespected, used, mistreated, and you need to work that out yourself for a while. Tell her that her crying is not helping you, it's not making you feel better only worse, and if she's really sorry she'll reconsider how she treats you.
You need to work on you and not think about her, you need to be able to set your boundaries when you have them and be able to stand by them. And if she doesn't listen you need to be able to tell her without sugarcoating it exactly how shitty she's being. You need to be able to make her take responsibility for her actions as well as you take responsibility for your actions.
Is her disregarding you during sex a common occurrence or was this a one off? Either way, when you have found some stability in yourself you guys need to discuss boundaries and how to solve future issues like this one.
If you feel up to it you could ask her how she would feel if you nagged her for sex and basically forced yourself on her when she didn't want to and just disregarded her during the entire time. Then leave her to think about that for a while.
[–]wazzup987 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
This was rape, this used coercion. listen its one thing to persuade some to fuck you but after 5 times being told no not tonight? no thats coercive.
i know the definition of consent and rape get garbled on both sides. i don't have full context, so i don't know what types of tactics she used. but the simple fact is that undue pressuring and coercion is rape. where that line is a whole other discussion.
based on what said assuming full honesty with the limited details and with out full context, this is about 75% chance of meeting the legal definition of rape.
i can't tell you how to proceed. if this is repeated behavior i would leave, i would recommend you go to rape crisis center. explain the situtation hope for the best. if that fall through talk to a shrink. i'm a guy on the internet, i don't you or your gf. best of luck
[–]skepticalbipartisan 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Do you feel she should go to jail for doing this to him?
[–]DevilishRogue 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
No it isn't coercive to see if someone has changed their mind and reluctant consent is still consent.
[–]wazzup987 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
5 times? no your insane. past the third time it became pressuring him in to it. that is not ok. last i check we are pushing no means no for both sexes. again we would need full context but just he said yes their for he consented in this case is vastly over simplifying
[–]DevilishRogue -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There is no maximum number of times that someone can ask if another person has changed their mind. And saying "Yes" is giving consent, even if it is reluctant.
[–]nuesuh 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Not sure what to say honestly.. You do sound very emasculated.
You're not sober. Maybe try hugging it out, sleeping and seeing how you feel tomorrow?
Sorry if my response is shit, but this semi-regret/semi-rape thing is just weird to get into. Never been in a similar "not sure if i want it" spot.
[–]Wargame4life 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
you weren't raped in my eyes since you consented.
personally if it were me, i would say "im too knackered knock it off" if she didnt i would say "fuck off" and if she continued i would chuck her out.
if you allow her feelings to manipulate you like in your example she will be walking over you forever.
your rights are just as valid as hers, your vito is just as valid.
stand up for yourself, and dont take crap from people trying to manipulate you (if they are)
[–]192873982 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's not an easy case.
It's understandable that you feel used, but you shouldn't feel raped. You did tell her you don't feel like it, but in the end you allowed her to do it after she bugged you enough. She didn't care about you that much in that moment, for whatever reason. She was drunk and horny. You could have made her stop at any time if you wanted, but didn't want to, because you felt like denying her something you should not deny her, which may be a result of society telling us that "men always should be up for sex".
She apologized and it's possible that it was an earnest apology, but it does not change the fact that she used you.
You should therefore not think about rape, but about your relationship with her.
Do you want to stay with her even after she ignored your unease for her own pleasure, or break up?
Are there other consequences this action can have?
The last thing, the woman crying, is a strange thing that goes far deeper than you may think. Men are conditioned to react to womens crying not only by sound, but also by the smell and view of it. Whenever a woman cries, a man wants to protect her, even if she did the ugliest things to the man. It's a terrifying weapon. But on the other hand, women sometimes can't control when they cry. They just start crying when they feel bad, and in your situation, she felt bad. Now the question is whether she felt bad because of your accusation, or because she realized how disgusting her behaviour was.
[–]Demonspawn 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
You consented, so no you weren't raped.
I have an entirely different thought processes on "I'm not into it but my partner is": If I want the right of a partner who doesn't stray, I have the responsibility of having sex with that partner when they're in the mood if I'm physically capable of it (this works both ways).
I've had sex with my partner plenty of times when I wasn't really in the mood but she was. She's done the same for me. As long as you're capable of having sex, go for it. What's the loss besides 15-30 minutes of your time? In return for a happier partner sounds like a good cost/gain trade-off.
So, no. You weren't raped, but you were used. Is that really a big deal in a committed relationship?
[–]FigNinja 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I have, too. But if I did say no, I'm sure he wouldn't keep on about it. It doesn't make this rape, but I can see where that could make me feel disrespected.
My normal scenario of "he's in the mood and I'm not" is pretty different from what this guy experienced. "I'm not in the mood" is more I wouldn't initiate sex at this moment. It's not like I end up having to lie back and think of England whilst submitting to my marital obligations. My husband is really good at pleasing me. If I just don't rebuff him, in five seconds I'm in the mood. I'm pretty sure if I were lying there feeling miserable, he wouldn't want to continue.
This seems to me to be two drunk people not communicating. She was definitely being selfish and probably has bought into the idea that, of course, men always want sex. He didn't honor his own feelings and she showed absolutely no sensitivity to his them while they were having sex. I can definitely see why he's feeling hurt and she's crying.
[–]Demonspawn 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
My normal scenario of "he's in the mood and I'm not" is pretty different from what this guy experienced.
Part of that is because you're a woman. Women's sex drives are much more reactive than how men's function. When I'm not in the mood but she is, the difficult part is getting me hard so that we can even have sex. But I never really get into the mood, she finishes, I give her a hug, and that's pretty much the end of it.
But I never feel bad about it. She's my partner and, even though my drive is higher than hers, sometimes she's in the mood when I'm not. I don't consider it a harm or a duty or anything... it's more like doing her a favor which I know will be repaid back to me (in spades, as our record goes).
[–]throwaway49274927 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Man, I get what you're saying but when did so many men become such a bitch? I think a lot of us have been in a position with a long term SO where we reluctantly had sex. Is it really rape when that happens? IMO, fuck no. Christ, you've probably had sex with your SO hundreds of times, and the one time you're not in the mood it's suddenly a huge issue. Grow a pair of balls and tell her to fuck off next time if you don't want to have sex. It's that easy.
[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Break up with her. She is a rapist.
[–]TheRavenousRabbit -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This wasn't rape, this was just two drunk people making a stupid mistake. Talk to her again, tell her that she made a mistake but so did you. I'm not even defending her actions here but you didn't communicate vocally so that she'd understand that you wanted something more emotionally connective.
