I had a thought about this after looking at my pay stub the other day. Everyone here agrees that it's an earnings gap and not a wage gap, meaning men tend to earn more. The consensus here being that men tend to work in fields requiring more technical knowledge of their job or that there's more risk to one's life in doing it.

Feminists want to claim that they don't get paid what they actually earn, so what if we as a society start itemizing what it is we're getting paid for. A soldier goes off to the sand pit and earns hazardous duty pay, and family separation pay and such and all of this is itemized on their pay stubs. Everyone under the same rank gets the same base salary plus all their various entitlements.

Why not, for say that job using a backhoe on the side of a cliff for $100/hr that's floating around on here, we just itemize it out, $15 for base pay, $10 for being away from family for days on end, $45 for risk of life, $20 for knowledge of using a backhoe, $10 for safety regulation training or something.

Something like this would take maybe a little of the air out of the feminist wage gap blimp and hopefully bring it closer to the relative sanity of the rest of us.
