I don't think the 4B movement supports a matriarchy or patriarchy. 4B is about women radically decentering men for the sake of their personal health and well-being, from their perspective. It's not about children either, just not bearing them for men.

It would only be cognitive dissonance if the same individual was promoting the 4B movement and a matriarchal system that prioritized children. Otherwise, it's just different individuals with different ideas.

There’s so much wrong with this that I’m just going to have to start from scratch.

The 4B movement is a reaction to mistreatment of women in South Korea. They find the treatment of women at the hands of men is so severe and rampant that they have decided to isolate themselves from men and avoid all ties to them. No dating, no sex, no marriage, no pregnancy. This has very little to do with children, and everything to do with men and the government.

It is a reaction to current unwanted circumstances, not an ideal for what the world should permanently look like. Not wanting something to exist in its current form is not the same as not wanting it to exist under better conditions. To quote one of the Korean women in the movement “if a world born from my womb oppresses me, I will not allow that world to exist”.

Matriarchy as an ideal centers the needs of children, the sick and the vulnerable above everyone else. Whereas patriarchy centers the needs of men above everyone else.

An example of this is that in households where women control the money more money is spent on household necessities and child expenses than in households where men control the money. In households where men control the money we find that a larger sum of money go towards themselves and things that do not benefit the household.

So a matriarchy is a community approach as opposed to patriarchy which is an individualist approach.

But this is a discussion of allocation of resources and structure of society. Not fertility. We want to prioritize the children that exist in society; not necessarily have more children.

So you can participate in the 4B movement (not be with men or have children) while advocating for matriarchy (that society should be structured in a way that prioritizes children and the vulnerable) at the same time without it being a continuation.

If anything, you could consider the 4B movement to be a political movement to abolish patriarchy and introduce matriarchy.

4B is just about decentering men’s options and removing men as much as possible from your life. 4B doesn’t force women to not have kids at all it would just promote IVF in such a case and suggest why women should only be willing to birth girls.
