If a man wants a woman that is going to cook, clean, and have children, etc. he should pay. If he doesn't want that kind of arrangement, he should look for women who are more adamant about paying for themselves (many such women exist amongst the educated early 20's working professional population).

This is a very archaic idea and has little to do with education or being 'well mannered'. If you want men who agree with this, you'll probably find they agree with other more traditional values that are not 'equal standards'.

Nah I like splitting. I have been on a couple of dates where the guy has really fervently tried to insist on paying - once a guy literally tried to jam his card in the reader at the same time as me. I found it really bizarre and a bit stressful. Later I asked why he'd felt he had to do that and he said he'd been expected to pay for everything with his ex, and he'd basically been taught that if a girl doesn't let you pay it means she doesn't like you. We're no longer together but I'm hoping he learned enough to not be taken advantage of in that way again.

Men have historically been forced to do this under the million year reign of the patriarchy so we should free our shackles of this old evil institution once and for all don't you agree? Women are becoming the higher earners and are flooding the white collar job market therefore it is their social responsibility to pay since they can afford it.

I agree with you, unless the woman feels more comfortable splitting. Some women don’t want the guy to have any sexual expectations. I prefer to start the relationship on equal footing rather than setting up a traditional power dynamic or exchange of services. I’d expect to pay but I wouldn’t mind splitting the first date if she insisted. Because I understand how that could make her more comfortable.

While we’re at it: Can we please end this sexist rhetoric that the women is doing the man a huge favor by putting on makeup and looking good and deserves free stuff in exchange. What kind of relationship is that? Both the man and the woman are expected to look good. Not just for the other person but in general. Should I hand you a bill for my gym membership?

Your language comes off really condescending. Going on a date with a guy is not some huge favor. Don’t you like him? If you don’t like him..don’t go. But don’t act like it’s a favor and expect free stuff in return. You have to be aware of the kind of guy that would be into that relationship and the kind of guy who would be repulsed by it.
