Was reading about genetic dead-ends in another thread here on old PPD, and I wondered why that and 99% being discussed here on the regular matters. Answer: It really doesn't.

The nice thing about all this is the oncoming collapse. It's not gonna matter. Thousands of species are going extinct in the 6th great mass extinction event right now. Gonna be way more much sooner than later. That means every member of many species wiped out. And we're worried about being singular dead-end links in this chain, with billions of redundant copies of the same genes all over the earth. But we're animals too, no much how we want to deny it, so the extinction will come for us.

So our individual genetic fitness is going to matter very little. Collapse is coming.. Let me repeat that. Collapse is coming..

And no. A little tech tech won't save us. There are at least 19 collapses coming, many of whom singlehandedly ended many civilizations in the past. So solar panels for climate change while driving a big heavy Tesla that wears down roads twice as fast and not sacrificing anything else, not gonna cut it. All that globalization means is we'll hang a bit longer, trading here and there for this and that, to keep things going that shouldn't be going, making it all the worse when the time comes because we degraded every fucking area on earth to the breaking point instead of just one or two and moving on.

Think I'm nuts? Maybe. Or most definitely. But it's coming. We just go a huge Huge HUGE spike in ocean temperatures.. So far outside the norm, it's like 4 magnitudes of order away from random chance.

So be a fucking genetic dead-end. Enjoy the decline. We're just dead men and women, still walking. You might have a kid, they even might have a kid, but it's gonna end at that for most of us. Several links to the end of the chain. Big whoop. Congrats.
