It's not that women love assholes, they are just attracted to traits in men that are seen as masculine like boldness, assertiveness ,strength, dominance and aggressiveness. Assholes tend to have these traits and nice guys don't.

Women are attracted to social status, probably because one's status indicated how well he could provide for offspring. If one has a high opinion of himself then he might be egotistical and snobby. (i.e. believes that he's better than everyone else, that others are beneath him) This sort of behavior communicates how good someone thinks he is. Who better to know where someone is within the social hierarchy than the person himself? It's not like this bare claim of "I'm the best"; It's more like a set of behaviors that all point toward the same conclusion. It's that set of behaviors that are attractive. If someone is a "nice guy"; Humble and what have you, this isn't going to push those buttons. Being a "nice guy" communicates "I have a low opinion of myself; I am low in the hierarchy". Women don't want that, but if there are other things going on, like the guy is very cute, then they can outweigh these things. He's right. Logically ask yourself why women ask for more money, more height, smarter than her ect, better car when half the things they ask for we didn't evolve for. For example money wasn't with us in evolution. It's because they want better than them. The best way to do that is through actions. Take a week to reply see how much the situation changes. Stand her up on a date for the fun of it, see how eager she is to come the next time.

ok, and there's a million of people who say the opposite and who are also talking from experience. So what now?

Fact of the matter: Nobody gives a fuck about anecdotes. They're worthless. There's a million different people out there, who experience a million different things, and have their experiences and perceptions changed by a million different biases. Why the fuck would anyone care about someones ultra biased anecdotes?

So we gotta do something else here and look at data. And big surprise, what studies find time and time again, is that what keeps marriages stable is not being an asshole to your wife.
