Entitlement comes across as a major issue in sexual dynamics between men and women. I agree that no one is entitled to anything from anyone (unless a contract is involved.) I've noticed the words "entitled" and "deserved" also have gender biased connotations in everyday speech. Women are told they "deserve better" men are told they are "not entitled."

Personally I feel like many of the "entitled" claims are directed at men who may not have actually felt entitled to sex, but from a moral standpoint may have been more deserving than the guy that got laid who may not have "deserved" it.

Regarding entitlement, I view it as a negotiable term. "I provided this and am entitled to that via our agreement. I gave you money for the cheeseburger you give me a cheeseburger." It is very objective and concrete. Whereas deserving I view as a merit based or karmic term with subjective rationality. "I worked hard for that promotion. I deserve it. But it is not in my power ultimately to make the decision." It surrenders the outcome while still placing importance of the object. The person know that while they feel they worked the hardest that is subjective to his boss's opinion of that work.

Would we really expect the person who didn't get the promotion to not feel hurt and bitter? He did his best and failed, that hurts. Maybe he also views the smooth talking younger guy that got the promotion over him as "not deserving of it."

Another point before I ramble any further.

Have any of you ever had a friend that you felt was deserving of love, sex, etc. yet just couldn't obtain it?

Likewise have any of you known someone who felt entitled to love, sex, etc.?

If so please share and maybe we can come to some understanding of the differences between the two terms and maybe change our vocabulary if things go well.
