I started the series a few years back and have since found TRP about March '18. Seeking discussion on the themes of the books.

In a nutshell: There is an interdimentional library that exists between parallel worlds, they collect rare books from different worlds to bind them together and encourage stability, agents are sent out to 'collect' books however they can, there is The Language that can be used by librarians to temporarily dostort reality to aid them, main character woman and apprentice male dragon. It has a magical twist to the stories and has a Sherlock Holmes element and they're generally light hearted to read.

The part that I find interesting is the Fae / Dragon element of the stories and how they interact. It seemed so familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it - I thought for a long time what these aspects could be metaphors for: Creative/artistic and logical? Gay and straight? Dreamlike and lucid? It is since I've found TRP and ventured down this path that I find more and more that feminine and masculine would fit best. My reading and reflections of what the gender roles could truly mean have led me to this conclusion.

The Fae: fictional creatures that sweep you up into their narratives and you can potentially become a 'trope' part in one of their dramatic stories. Fae worlds tending to be more erratic and dreamlike. Extreme Fae power leads to extreme chaos and a breakdown of reality. The Dragons: firmly rooted in logic and reasoning. Dragons have overwhelming presence and the dragon words tend to be extremely ordered.

Any thoughts?

Not week but honest and there is a difference.

Jesus was a practicing Jew and from my studies would be very disappointed that his followers thought him to be joking when he reinforced his jewish religion and heritage by saying:

"Hear, oh Israel, that the Lord our God is one."

The old messiah I reject is the Christianized pagan messiah which literally died and rose as in other myths of the day.

The man who died on the cross while asking forgiveness for those who killed and persecuted him is and always will be the true messiah of Christianity for me. Not the guy who pretended to suffer while all the time knowing he was God, nor the one who comes back for the cosmic "I told you so" in the Book of Revelations.

When Jesus rose he rose not in a literal sense but a spiritual sense in the hearts of his followers and I believe this because he is portrayed as the one who stands at the door of your heart knocking, not the one who shows up like the FedEx driver in real time.

These words are not weak and would have driven me to death centuries ago when the church still had control.

When doctrine and dogma became idols and conformity was established by means of torture and death, Christianity died a death to truth of history, a death to conscience, and the mythical pagan messiah replaced the practicing Jew who died while following his own advice of "love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you."

There were other forms of Christianity that didn't survive persecution by the Church and because I actually took the time to "seek and you shall find" through the various versions of Christianity, church history, and through the other main religions of the world I actually found Jesus, the man and not the myth and was inspired to return to the faith.

So yes I don't believe in the old messiah because to me he is nothing but a form of repackaged paganism. I believe in the man Jesus who said that "by their love you will know them". He implies that actions speak louder than words but the church has doctrine speaking louder than him.

Weak maybe. But at least I bothered to actually think about the faith for myself and in an unforseen twist actually became a Christian who views God as the personification of love in action.

While I don't believe in God, as a personal entity, I can believe "God is Love" and do my best to enact love towards others. That is why occasionally you will see me soften a response taken the wrong way or make a conciliatory effort to keep the lines of communication open. If you took wrong, I am sorry. Sometimes I assume people can see into my mind. My mistake.

And as part of my faith, I no longer cower before those who brazenly codemn me to hell nor feel intimidated by them. There are a growing number of pastors who are atheists/agnostics in the pulpit who believe in the message but not the myth. Most are in hiding and will not come forward. These are the ones that will take Christianity forward.

Christianity is dying and it is dying by its own dogma and insistence that the myth must trump the teachings. This only happens and can happen when the messiah you created in your own image, just like God, cannot be critically examined and its adherents must be silenced by brainwashing from infancy on up with fear tactics of hell to enslave their minds to a fear so strong that any other scripture or religion is deemed a threat to one's salvation.

I almost considered deleting the last part of my initial reply but didn't think anyone would notice before I deleted that comment as I do all comments.

Sorry if you took it as weak. But Jesus is not coming back and the religion bearing his name will shortly lose out to another and not be coming back either unless the church actively engages another interpretation and another way. And when those who bear the name Christian actually attempt to live it.

I hate to see it go and we are at a critical point in mankind's religious history where we know deep down that it is not literally true but the allure of certainty will predispose former Christians and other religious seekers to join the up and coming religion that overtly stresses certainty with no room for free thought.

I haven't read Peterson or heard his talks about chaos but there are similar ideas in Erich Fromm's work. He talks about pure masculine love being conditional vs pure feminine being unconditional (and also that these are abstractions and that neither of these pure forms actually exist).

Basically to me masculinity ultimately condenses into a comparison operator. "x > y" or "x < y" or "x is good and y is bad". These comparisons are what generate hierarchy and central to masculinity. Basically you can't sort things without a comparison operator.

But I wouldn't really say that pursuit of chaos is feminine or what unconditional love is about so it's always struck me as a weird perspective when Peterson and his "dragons of chaos" or whatever come up. It's more not imposing or requiring order.

"chaos" vs "order" is also weird from information and complexity theory where chaos just means "complex" and order is "simple". There's no real judgement you can attach to it.
