We hear a lot about toxic masculinity, or how some elements of masculinity backfire on men, and harm them, (and often others). That's my take on it anyways, but I'm a woman, and this post isn't about that.

I've heard the term "Toxic femininity" a few times and it's left me kinda perplexed. Femininity is usually touted as some long lost discipline, that magically makes women pretty, agreeable, and happy. Femininity is always the right answer. When a woman turns her back on femininity, and refuses to perform it, (supposedly) is when she becomes toxic. I'm not offended by it, but given the idealization of femininity by men, it just seems a bit oxymoronic when applied to women.

TL;DR What about feminity could be seen as toxic, exactly? Or, even better, what are some examples of Toxic Femininity in action?
